Powershift Gearbox Faults

Hi everyone. Looking for some advice please.
We have a 2014 Kuga which is on it's 2nd gearbox and has just gone again. The 2nd gearbox was fitted at 40k in Dec 2018. Ford have just quoted in excess of £7000 to replace! Does anyone have any information or advice as to how to get Ford to cover the cost of this replacement. This is a know fault, with recalls on some vehicles (have no idea why it's only some vehicles, as I understand it's the same gearbox) with successful law suits in the US, Canada and Australia.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

If you have a diesel then it's a different gearbox to the car's sold in USA, Canada and Australia because they didn't get the diesel option.

Please have a read here and update your signature with your car's details in the signature box so the forum knows what you have.

You are not going to get ford to admit anything regarding the design or the reliability of the earlier powershift but it would be interesting to know why they changed it from circa 2015/2016 when the newer engines were introduced.

@keithmac has plenty to say regarding the powershift and gives good reasons for not purchasing a 2013 and 2014 diesel model with a powershift gearbox.

Any links to the lawsuit in Australia? I think you've got your wires crossed as it was the dry clutch Powershift in the Focus/ EcoSport/ Fiesta(?) that Ford got done for in Australia. Someone else posted the same claim on here a while back as well- it's not correct. For a start they never sold in large numbers here with the diesel engine.

We did get the diesel / Powershift combo on the Kuga in Australia- at least from 2013 to 2017. The Mondeo was also sold here with it.

Thanks all! Do you know whether it's necessary to replace both the gearbox and ECU?

Hi there, its a 2014 MK2 2.0 TDCi Titanium X Powershift 4x4. There are currently no fault codes, it went into Fords and they replaced the trans filter and oil (£700 later) and lasted approx a week before going again. The fault code we have seen is the transmission malfunction on the dash. We've approach a couple of garages who specialise in these repairs and they've asked if we want to replace just the gear box or the ECU as well?

This was our P0766, the clutch it's was faulty, the TCU "assumes" it's the solenoid but most of the time it is not.

On the Mk2 it's a job to replace the TCU/ Mechatronic while gearbox fitted (basically front end of the car off) so if you want guaranteed success first time put a new Mechatronic in there.

If the gearbox has eaten the damper springs/ guides the entire Mechatronic unit needs stripping and cleaning regardless which is very labour intensive, or replacing with new.

Sad think is the failure is inevitable due to how they designed the whole thing so even with a fresh rebuild the clock is ticking..

I did a 2017 conversion but that was a lot of work and I've not seen any garage offer it as an option as it was very labour intensive. Worth it for me though as the later gearbox has a proper DMF.

Hello everyone.im having the same problem with mine now I changed the gearbox oil and filter the first time it happened and it was fine for about 2 years and now it's come back .so I changed the stuff again but still no joy this time.

If I take the valve body out and clean or change the solonoids .or get it refurbished can I just put it back in the car or does it need to be programmed back in?.
