ABS and AWD

Pulled up to fill with fuel. When I drove off, the ABS and skid control lights came on. Car drove ok, but obviously without traction control. Tested with forscan, and rear left wheel speed sensor is gone. Ordered a new one but not arrived yet.

Next day, reversed out of the drive and it felt like there was resistance to movement, but then drove ok. Next day, same again, but this time, when I drove forward, there was an almighty clunk. Car drove ok after that. Getting worse each time I reverse after the handbrake has been on then drive forward.

Sensor arrived today, but not fitted yet. Same again when reversing then almighty clunk. This time, a message came up saying AWD overheated temp disabled. I had no rear wheel drive until I had driven for 5 minutes, switched off then restarted the car.

Does anyone have any ideas before I replace the sensor? I don’t want to fit it and it turn out to be something else that is damaging the sensor.
Thanks in advance.

thanks ozekuga, I will give that a try. If I don’t apply the handbrake after the initial clunk, it reverses fine. Wast sure if it was something to do either the handbrake not releasing properly to start with. I have read posts about shoes catching in reverse, but I’m pretty sure mine doesn’t have shoes, and the handbrake is part of the disc and pad mechanism. I’ll have a look at the weekend.

I gave the Ford dealer the reg so hopefully it should be the right one. Definitely a problem with the handbrake. Parked on the petrol station forecourt to get my morning coffee, came back out and it had rolled into the middle of the main road 🙈.
