Which brand of oil

I know this has been discussed before but a search for the last 12 months produced zero results hence the new thread.

The old Kuga is due a service an MOT at the end of the month so called in at my local garage this morning to get it booked in. Two years ago when it went there I know he used Castrol Magnatec 0W30 as that is what is on the invoice which was the oil I requested. I didn't ask what he used last year but noticed it doesn't say Castrol on the invoice.

He doesn't use Castrol anymore and only uses Shell and Miller. I assume the Shell would be their C2 Helix and not sure about the Miller one as I see that still has approval pending for Ford WSS-M2C950-A.

Before I go out and buy 6 litres of Castrol I just wondered what anyone else thought about the option of Shell or Miller.

Cheers guys.

No but I will ask. He used to keep it on the shelf so perhaps whoever he kept it on the shelf for have changed cars or garage. He said he would put Castrol in if I want but then he reckoned Castrol don't make their oil. Not sure if that's true or not.

I thought it a bit expensive when ECP are charging ÂŁ62 for 4 litres. Not sure where they are getting that price from as that's nearly twice as much as Halfords and Ford direct. I may just get my own oil. I would actually like a video of the garage putting it in lol.

I will give Ford a call tomorrow and get a price from them. Years ago when I used to look after our mk6 fiesta dealer the oil was cheapest from Ford. I just found out I have a ford specialist independent in my home city so may have a word with them as well.

Also we have a family run ford dealer not too far from me. Their servicing costs seems quite reasonable as well as some other repairs. Last year I enquired at the independent I used about cambelt change and he quoted me ÂŁ350. It's ÂŁ349 at the ford dealer. Both prices without water pump.

I thought the cambelt cost from the main dealer was very reasonable. Extra ÂŁ100 for water pump. My independent though has a good reputation and is busy. I couldn't get my car in any time next week. Brake prices from the ford dealer are as the other ford dealers. ÂŁ689 for a clutch. These guys are about 30 minute drive for me and the independent is a 5 minute walk lol.

ÂŁ86 from my local Ford dealer (EH) for just oil and filter. I bought the service kit from the seller (Vospers) recommended by @andypsp for ÂŁ75.95 which includes 6 litres Castrol 0W30, genuine oil filter, genuine air filter and genuine pollen filter. The filter cost alone from my local GSF was ÂŁ38 for MANN products so my oil works out at ÂŁ38 which seems pretty reasonable to me. The garage can do the fuel filter.

They had the same service kit for mine but advertised for a Galaxy and it was ÂŁ6 less. Same part numbers which I thought was odd as even though it's the same engine I would have thought the air and pollen filters would be different. It wasn't just on the kit I bought either but the same with the kit which includes 10 litres of oil and the one that includes the fuel filter.

Perhaps the kits are identical but the Kuga is a more popular car.

@The Painter - interesting they do vauxhall parts as well. I will have a check for the wife's car to make sure that gets the right oil this year. Vospers prices make a bit of a mockery over what my local ford dealer wanted. I should perhaps give my other local dealer a call as their service prices seem reasonable.
