Keep....Us....Guessing....About

1) Claimed MPG figures?

2) Why the dodgy 4x4 system/diff isn't part of the service schedule?

3) Why didn't we all get a Thingy with our Kuga (use search option for an explanation of what a Thingy is)?

4) Why does a basic oil service suddenly drop from ÂŁ250 to ÂŁ99 once the car is three years old?

5) Why do some Kugas allow water ingress due to half @rsed sealing of the bulk head?

6) Why do the tyres on 19" rims wear unevenly?

7) Why do alternators bite the dust 1000 of miles before they should?

etc etc etc

I'll blame this reply on being laid up in bed, pain killers & boredom

1. MPG figures are gained using a standard test that all manufactures have to use. It's not really Ford's fault you cannot get these figures in real world driving. Prius owners have tried to sue Toyota over their claimed MPG figures.

2. Ford did not make the AWD system. Haldex did. They supplied a sealed for life unit probably as requested, to keep maintenance costs down. Again not Fords fault that it is not upto the job.

3. Thingy missing. Not really needed if you have privacy glass, so comes down to cost cutting.

4. ÂŁ250 for an oil service!!!!, nearer the ÂŁ150 mark. Simple answer warrenty. 1st year is down to Fords and the final 2 are covered by the dealer, so they need to cover this incurred cost somehow. Bump up the service cost.It wasn't that long ago you only got 1 year warrenty! So for the little extra it costs you to get it serviced your car at least has some warrenty (granted trim and other items aren't covered, but it's better than nothing)

5. Water leaks. That is ALL Fords fault and should not come under trim and only be covered for a year!

Those are my thoughts for the first 5.

Hi Speedy,

Yeah the awd system is supposed to be sealed for life. Only problem is it's lifespan is less than that of the rest of the car!

Fortunately I have 2wd, a thingy as standard, tyres that wear evenly, no water ingress so far & my alternator still works. My spoof explanation of what KUGA might stand for wasn't based on my own experiences & was tounge in cheek. However it was based on the experiences of many users of this forum.

The humour appears to have been wasted on Morph though?

Hi Dozer dad
Very good but that's made me very apprehensive now as I haven't had my Kuga delivered yet , and it's my first One

You'll be fine. Bought mine with 9.5k on the clock, had it for a month and done 3k miles already with no issues at all. D.D was having a laugh and someone else took it seriously. I think I'm right in saying that Ford have dropped Haldex in favour of there own in - house system for the mark 2. It's my first Kuga and my first Ford for 17 years. LOving it.

Hi WJones,

Don't panic mate. My spoof does list common faults mentioned on here a lot. However if you compare the amount of issues V's the amount of Kugas sold, I guess they are a small percentage of failures? It does make me wonder how many owners that aren't forum members are having these problems? My Kuga has been virtualy problem free but I only cover approx 4000 miles per year.

The 4x4 system failure & alternator failures are becoming more & more common though!

Hi guys
Totally get it was a spoof LOL as I said "very good". I work for Ford Motor Company And had many new Ford vehicles, quite a few have been back to dealers with various issues over the years. It's my first Kuga as I was originally going to change for a Focus ST-3, but with the Focus facelift due out later this year I had second thoughts. I will see how the Kuga is and may be converted, or, it's back to the original plan of an ST after the face lift ST comes out early next year.

I've got a mk2 and yes it don't use the haldex system for the transmission.
It's a very nice looking car.
Think someone at Ford was taking the pee at first with the name (was a member of the Ford Cougar owners club before joining this club) the previous cougar coupe was named after the native American mountain lion or cougar. As for this new one, one can only guess they wanted to keep along the lines of the Ford Ka?
