Try a light to mid cutting compound. It will be a bit more abrasive than polish, then finish off with polish.

Detailer that did the ceramic coating on my Kuga wasn’t happy with the standard of the gloss black trim around the front grill so he got a company that he deals with to do a quick PPF job on it. If he hadn’t told me I probably wouldn’t have noticed it.

 

Putting a film coating on is a good idea but it would need to be scratch free to begin with

 

Whatever the reason was the solution worked, my guy is a bit of a perfectionist and the slightest thing winds him up. His solution worked in this instance but I didn’t see exactly what it was that he wasn’t happy with.
