Not sure about larger batteries in future PHEV models, some makes of cars are using or planning to use a different type of hybrid battery which is lighter, cooler, lithium free. Will they be any good ? No idea only time will tell but certainly a lot of research in this area, along with fierce competition between car manufacturers.

By larger I mean capacity not size. batteries are 40% smaller than 10 years ago for the same capacity - that will continue for a while at least.

I too had my Kuga updated yesterday, and therefore I charged it overnight giving me approximately 35 miles range, but have now found the 12v battery appears to have failed so I can't start the car or lock it. That battery has worked fine in the 3 months I haven't been allowed to charge the car. Has anyone else had this issue since the update.
I had my Kuga updated about 2 weeks ago, due to travel haven’t charged it since and all was working fine.
Then left the car at my partners (as getting MOT done locally) and borrowed hers to travel for work….now keeps 12v keeps draining and she is tearing her hair out and isn’t very happy with me. Keeps having to jump start it.…..

She asked garage (independent not Ford) to check 12v battery at MOT and they said all was fine.

She is now trying to charge it overnight to see if that will make a difference, but reading other comments on here it sounds like I need a new 12v which is irritating.

My was done 3 weeks ago and no issues going forward.

Mine was in on 30th June for first 2 yearly service and recall fix. Have been running mainly on electric past month and no issues at all. I follow Lithium Battery guidance and charge mainly up to 80% - although I did test it by going to 100% once. Same range and performance as before all this started in early March.

Have always charged to 100% and after 5yrs no noticeable difference in range. Battery never discharges completely, approx 15-20% always kept in reserve.

Also the charge rate of the PHEV is very low, high speed charging of batteries is thought to be detrimental to battery life, so charging to 100% is unlikely to be an issue.

In case anyone is interested, here is my story - with a happy ending!

4 March - letter arrived, although the website states "No Recalls"
3 July - software "fix" applied, together with MoT.
1 August - one month later, I'm still getting 50 miles from a full charge, even in cool weather.

So my experience is: four months of petrol-only driving, followed by a return to normal. I really can't complain. :)

I’m the same. Always charge to 100%. No change in range (in like for like weather conditions) in two and a half years.

Hi all, just come across this thread and, having owned the car less than 2 weeks, it's got me slightly concerned. I've checked Ford and the gov.uk website for recalls and they're both showing nothing outstanding. I'm not sure how long the car was on the forecourt so really no idea if they, or the previous owner would've had notice of it. Is there a definitive way of finding out if the update has been done? I notice there was another recall, 24S27, that I'm not sure was actioned either.

Hi, just had my recall done, the bloke at my local garage advised that I ring up Ford customer service and gave the number. So I rang them up to complain about this issue, spoke to them and they have offered me £100 as a "good will" gesture, not bad considering I ignored the recall notice and charge it anyway :sneaky:.
I've searched this post (and 100s of others) looking for the number and can't find it so here it is 020 3564 4444.

Never bothered claiming anything as I continued to charge the car despite the letter.
It does raise the question of honesty though, if you ever booked your car in for some work could they check you were charging during that period and get you charged with fraud ? I accept it’s most unlikely but in theory possible.:)
More likely to add extra £100 to your bill.

The problem would probably arise if you were to charge the car then you had the fault that caused the recall. I'm guessing if the car went up in flames due to the fault and they found out you were still charging when told not to it could possibly invalidate the insurance and thus any pay outs.

I had my '23 updated yesterday. I had stopped charging, and of course using EV mode, upon receiving the recall notice in March. Now when selecting EV mode the car starts the engine "for system performance" and hasn't stayed continuously in EV mode through 6 short drives. Is anyone else experiencing similar behavior?
Yes, I’ve experienced this, the engine appears to ‘kick in’ more. More now since the 12v battery failed two weeks after the recall notice appeared 🤔. I’m sure that was all connected. Happy that I can now drive in EV mode 👍🏻

Mattrix, who did you call at customer services, the only number that seems to relate to the recall is 6, the wait on that is ridiculous, I have waited more than half an hour and still got nowhere.

Youre lucky. When its very hot, the most I can get is 42, and that drops like a stone once the car’s been started!

Charged the car using a granny lead, must be fully charged as white lights on charging socket stopped, car shows 36 miles on electric, went to the local supermarket yesterday, less than 1 mile away on electric, got home and display shows 28 electric miles left. Outdoor temp 20c Air con switched off. Why such a drop in electric miles shown ?
I get exactly the same, although I find that if I drive in 2 or 3 reasonable length journeys I can get very close to the predicted range.
