Rear Brakes Squealing

Had our Kuga for 6 weeks and really loving it, but we noticed something weird after a long journey in the wet yesterday. When we we coming off the motorway and i braked on the slip road, the rear brakes squealed slightly. Braking performance was just like normal apart from the noise. There looks to be plenty of life in the rear pads and the discs are fine too, i'm just wondering if it was the excess wet weather or the fact that the rear discs are solid and not vented like the fronts? My previous 2 cars had vented discs all round and weirdly they only squealed when the weather was really hot in the summer.

Squealing rear brakes on the Mk2 / Mk2.5 is quite common. Both of our cars did it, especially when driving away from cold. No untoward wear or braking problems on either car.

How many miles has it done? Did you check the inner pad, they can wear out before the outer on some cars

It's just gone past 80k this morning. Not checked the inner pad, just the outer one by looking through the wheel.

I notice squeak sounds from back when I applied handbrake and car is still rolling. It's something like thin steel plate resonance on suspension...

No nothing like that, the car was in motion when the squealing came from the brakes.

Best idea is to take rear pads out and give a good clean. Mechanics fit new parts on dirty surface and it always cause problems in future.

Only squealing I had on mine was when the rear offside was down to metal. I would check the pads on the piston side. Don't put brembo pads from ECP in. They are too hard.
