Thats a first, I’ve no idea whats wrong or how to solve it. Maybe andspenka can offer a solution. Try messaging him.

Edit.. is the update offered the same as you’ve installed or as strange as it may seem a new version.

Im sure it’s the same but I will double check that, A new map update has appeared for our fiesta even tho it updated to the latest version just last week.

My Kuga does create a log file but it won’t upload, says upload failed every time.
Exactly the same problem as myself. One Ford Tech person told me to email them with the XML file so they can update their systems, so you might want to try that.

Please note though a day after I was told to email them with the log file a different Customer Support Rep told me to go to my local dealer! Which I have no intention of doing.

I’ve decided to abandon trying to upgrade it, just drives you mad 😠

Me too. There is no point in me going back to Ford Customer Services unless they change their responses. Best hope is their next webserver upgrade fixes the issue. Version control is not a new tech toy, they will be buying a tool to do it from someone, they need to get their act together.

Either that or the lads doings the non Ford updates come up with a post 2020 update👍

Ford would do themselves and their owners a massive favour by speaking to said lads and getting them to sort the updates out on their behalf and ditching whoever they have doing it now. It was a 57 minute install for me.

After a successful installation there should be a confirmation file added to your usb. From memory I think it contains your VIN and ends with a .xml file extension.

if it’s not there then you need to create one using the below Ford file maker :-

Having trouble getting a log file generated for your SYNC 3 update? Please follow below steps:
  1. Download this package (ZIP 47KB) and extract it on a USB stick (the USB stick needs to in ex-fat format)
  2. Enter your vehicle and switch on the engine
  3. When Sync 3 is fully loaded, insert the USB stick
  4. Wait until an “installation complete” message appears (it may take approximately 1 minute). This should now have produced a new log file
  5. Return to your PC and complete your update by uploading the log file onto the Ford website
  6. Here’s how to upload the log file using your PC:

    (a) Connect your USB Flash Drive to your PC and revisit the ‘Ford SYNC & Maps software update’ website (https://www. ford.co.uk/owner/resources-and-support/ sync-bluetooth/update#/).

    (b) Click the button “Confirm your update” and follow the instructions to upload the log file from your USB Flash Drive.

The file should look similar to this (Sync_WUB3A18V_WF05MNGCC5FY12345.xml).

    (c) A successful UPLOAD confirmation message should be displayed on your PC.

Hi all,

Just my two-penneth worth from my brief introduction into Sync 3 updates....

Carried out a successful Sync 3 update earlier today and the USB stick got the necessary log file ok. Went to upload the log file onto the Ford website via my Ford account, but found the system already knew, as I was then able to download the Map update. Don't ask me why or how, however, I did have my mobile phone which has the Ford Pass app installed connected to the car via bluetooth, and was also in process of setting up Android Auto at the time of the update. And maybe worth mentioning was that I had the phones mobile data on as well, car connected to the phone also via Wi-Fi. Whether this combination of phone/car connectivity had anything to do with it, I just don't know, but either way, the system was 'updated' without me having to send a log file.

For the Map update, I will again have my phone connected to the car and have mobile data switched on, and I'll see what happens after the map update with regards to the Ford website and the system being informed of the update.

Maybe this will help anyone having this log file Ford system issue.

The Mk3 Kuga will send and download data to/from FMC servers including sync updates and maps If your vehicle is connected to a Wi-Fi. On the FMC sync/maps page it should give an option to update via USB or WI-FI

I assume yours is a Mk3

I wasn't going to bother wasting my time on this any more but............... I now see there is a new version available on the Ford website!

When I tried before, after wifi update failure and then using the USB version, followed by my failure to upload the log file........ the version available was:

SYNC3 Consumer Assembly Upgrade - Release 3.4.22251 - Only for Nav/EU assemblies. - Taken from the installation.bak file on the USB stick.

Now I see on the Ford Website:
SYNC Updates
Update Available3.4.23088

I'll download this to a different USB stick and try the install tomorrow.

The Ford Website quotes a new version number, but when I downloaded it and loaded it onto a USB stick the version is the same as before.

So I remain stuck with a car running 3.4.22251

but Ford website thinks I'm still on 3.4.22110

And the Ford Website states there is an update available for 3.4.23088 but when I take the USB download option I get the previous version!

I think I'll give up on this again for now ;-)
