Hi I'm new to the forum so hello everybody. I've fitted a k&n intake kit to my 2012 2ltr 138bhp kuga and instantly have engine malfunction light on dash stopped car after restarting light went off for a while this happened a few times until the management light came on. Have had the codes read and code P00BC is stored. Put the old filter kit back an car runs fine with no warning lights. Have looked into this code and is related to low air flow which puzzles me as thought k&n increases air flow. Has anybody come across this an fixed this issue or any ideas as to how I can solve this issue without going back to standard filter? Thank you for reading

Was the filter heavily oiled? Also did you disconnect or remove the MAF?

There is a chance it is causing turbulent air flow, which is upsetting the MAF. MAF sensors are very fussy.

To be honest on a car like this I wouldn't have bothered fitting one with a modified box. Cost vs gain isn't worth it. Edited by: minimadgriff

Filter was fitted correctly as per instructions have double checked instillation many times. Have disconnected battery but not for 30mins does this have to be done for this length of time? Filter didn't seem very oiled in my opinion. I have disconnected the maf sensor only to clean it incase it was contaminated with oil from the new filter.

Hi Folks,
Glad I found this (P00BC thread)as my OBD reader gives slightly different codes? Just completed a service and found the O.E air filter element had collapsed in a few places so fitted a piper cross replacement (better airflow and won't collapse as the paper one did?) all seemed well until approx 200 miles later when the EML light came on, however car ran perfectly as before??? Cleared the fault as I couldn't decipher the code and a thorough check later I couldn't find anything wrong? Next trip 25 miles down the road and same again! Took note of the code this time and within all the letters and symbols is indeed POOBC! I was on a 170 mile round trip so took a chance and erased the code (I know!!!) however completed the journey without issue, so am I right to assume that the system has now "learned" the change in airflow? As the previous guy did I also cleaned the airmass senor with the correct cleaner spray, furthermore mine is a replacement element not a complete induction kit.
