Has anyone looked into adding an under seat subwoofer or similar? I can't find any information at all online but want to add an under seat subwoofer.

Cheers!

Not anyone I know of, but I am pretty sure a number of manufacturers offer such solutions. We over at the greek Kuga forum are looking into the specialized Focal solutions

I'm not sure an under seat powered sub is going to add much to your current system, assume you have the B&O system ?

We don't have our new Kuga yet so cannot comment on the sound quality but other Ford's we have had provide a bit of experience. Ford often provide a sub in the boot of the car in an enclosure (sealed) and more often than not they are 8" speakers. These provide limited additional bass on top of the other large door speakers. The only Ford I know of with anything bigger is the 10" sub in the Mustang (but that sounded horrible and I had to replace it with a better quality speaker) I would try to find an enclosure that will fit in the boot or spare wheel well and then put a decent speaker in that. Ford make sub enclosures for the Fiesta (wheel well) Focus, Mondeo etc. You will probably need to have an amp for the subwoofer as well. You can probably feed it from one or both rear speakers (subs can be single or dual voice coils) but will need to take advice first as the DSP in the Sync 3 has a habit of only sending part of the audio frequency to certain speakers. It doesn't have to be mega bucks but you do need to sort out the enclose first and then get an appropriate sized speaker for the volume of the enclosure.

A bad sub will either be pointless (not really adding any bass) or worse than pointless by swamping everything in boom !

I actually fitted an underseat sub in my old Focus (as well as upgrading all of the door speakers) and I was fairly happy with the level of bass that provided. I'm not sure how it sounded to any of the passengers though, but that's not really a concern as it's only really me and my 2 year old in the car. I'm certainly open to fitting a real sub in the boot though.

Yes I have the B&O system, which I'm happy with other than the bass being terrible. I expect I will upgrade the door speakers as well though as they do look like the budget cardboard variety that I replaced in my Focus.

It looks like the B&O system is a 10 speaker setup with a sub already ?? It must be really as one of the 10 speakers is the centre dash speaker so there must be another odd one somewhere !

If so it is there in the boot - see the pictures part way down this thread 2020 Ford Escape Titanium Subwoofer removal B&O system

If that is the case then you may benefit by swapping the speaker - it looks like a ported enclosure behind this panel with a pretty horrible looking speaker in it !

I would have a look at what you have because US and UK cars do differ sometimes. The first thing to do is get the enclosure out and measure the speaker (hole diameter, overall diameter and then check the depth as you will need that info to look at alternatives. That speaker looks just like the junk that comes with the B&O system in the Mustang which just generated boom and nothing else. Two pictures of my original speaker and replacement to show the difference ! The Pioneer was only ÂŁ70 and runs of the factory amp and the difference was huge in terms of sound quality and depth of bass.

That was in my Mustang so will not fit your Kuga

Looking further if you do have the sub it is a 6" x 9" which will make it more of a challenge. Something like this MAY fit if depth is OK but you really need to measure the enclosure first and also establish whether it is single or dual voice coil (2 wires or 4) EDIT - looking at the picture from the US it is single voice coil

Our 2021 Kuga hasn't been built yet I'm afraid so can't help out with measurements as we only have a Mk2 currently.

Yeah, it would be nice to upgrade the sound, but it's not in mine at all (9-speaker Sony) - I mostly find the plastic door panels vibrating at certain bass frequencies spoil the system - the doors just aren't braced well enough.
In my previous Kuga, I tried wedging some stiff foam blocks into each door pocket, which works really well for a few weeks, until the foam relaxes to its new shape, and the resonances came back. I gave up redoing them every few weeks.
I think mounting bass drivers in plastic doors will always cause problems, until they are really stiff and well braced.

Several years ago, I had a BMW with a premium Harmon Kardon system in it, and it was amazing, as it had two 6" subs on the little parcel shelf and thus used the entire saloon style boot as the bass cabinet, so would go really low. The bass response actually changed depending how much stuff I had in the boot! The emptier the better.

A friend of mine has a BMW 1 Series, and it has a sub mounted under the driver's seat, but actually in the metal floor panel, not just a plastic sub fitted and he gets zero resonances and solid bass.
