I have a 2013 titanium x kuga

today i am having issues with the tailgate...

the tailgate opens without issue using the keyfob and the console dash button. once it has opened i hear 2 beeps

when i press the close button on the tailgate nothing happens. even holding the button in to reconfigure the opening distance nothing happens. no beeps nothing...

pressing the tailgate button on the keyfob and on the dash to close it seems to have better results as the tailgate ever so slightly moves about a millimeter but does not close

also if i press the button to open the tailgate and then let it open a little and press the button to stop and close it just stops and pressing again just resumes opening

i am currently having to close it manually but obviously I am at a loss what to do.

any guesses or ideas are much appreciated

If have a look in the handbook it explains the ability to set the opening height of the tailgate, so it may be that you inadvertently set the opening height to something odd.

Would be interesting to see what faults if any come up on diagnostics when the boot is playing up.

I've seen Tailgate Actuator over current threshold (or similar) stored code but we've never had any bother with the boot oddly enough..

I know its an older thread but I found it and it helped me, so here goes. I bought a beautiful 2015MY Kuga Titanium. Very pleased with the vehicle. It replaced my 2012 Focus S which I wrote off a few weeks ago (nuff said about that) and sits proudly beside my wife's 2019 Mustang Ecoboost in the garage now. I purchased it knowing there was an issue with closing the tailgate but, as I am fairly technical, didn't worry too much about that. Usual issue, tailgate opens while beeping, stops at the top and then when pressing any button it just sits there and beeps as if it is closing. I tried all of the remedies in this thread, thank you very much, but none worked. After a few hours testing and playing, I found that if I assisted the lifting process ever so lightly and keep light pressure all the way to the top, the tailgate would close with the button. Tried this many times and it never failed. tried without helping and it failed first time. Had a little think and decided to help it to the top and once there did the reset thing by holding the button for 3 seconds. worked a charm. it has now been working for a week with no issues. I surmise it was just a sensor issue which it could not measure as when the tailgate reaches the top of the travel, there is always a little bounce. Holding the door up stopped that little bounce and the sensor managed to calibrate then. Hope this helps someone else as I thought I was up for a new powered strut. Strut is probably not the quietest ever but still works with no issues.
