it worked for me. I’ve had to use it twice, on different cars, because it failed to be automatically created after I successfully updated Sync. I sent it to fords via :- Update SYNC

I was then able to download maps, which is a very big file. I suggest that you read and follow :-

Hi again. I have tried numerous times over the last week or so to obtain the log file for the Sync3 update I did over wi-fi without success. I am just thinking would uploading Sync3 from a usb stick cause any problems? That way might get me a log file.
Your thoughts appreciated.

My Kuga does create a log file but it won’t upload, says upload failed every time.

if successfully created you should see a file on your USB stick that contains VIN and ends with a .xml file extension. This is the file that you have to send back to Fords. But read the beginning of this discussion and hopefully it will work for you.

 

If this doesn’t work for you, send .. andspenka … a pm letting him know that your stuck with the Ford route to updating sync and maps. He maybe able to advise further.

 

Sadly, the update system has been broken for months and Ford really don't care. They yave been promising a fix since last September.

 

That’s a bit poor, I love the car but like things to be right.

I agree, but FMC will say they don’t charge for updates to sync and maps unlike other well known German brands.

 

Did you get a confirmation message that the log file was accepted by the system. Also have you refreshed the sync page?

 

The green accepted msg appears for a second and then the page reverts back to sync update available. No error msg, I’ve refreshed it a few times.

 

Thats a first, I’ve no idea whats wrong or how to solve it. Maybe andspenka can offer a solution. Try messaging him.

Edit.. is the update offered the same as you’ve installed or as strange as it may seem a new version.

 

Im sure it’s the same but I will double check that, A new map update has appeared for our fiesta even tho it updated to the latest version just last week.

Hi all,

Just my two-penneth worth from my brief introduction into Sync 3 updates....

Carried out a successful Sync 3 update earlier today and the USB stick got the necessary log file ok. Went to upload the log file onto the Ford website via my Ford account, but found the system already knew, as I was then able to download the Map update. Don't ask me why or how, however, I did have my mobile phone which has the Ford Pass app installed connected to the car via bluetooth, and was also in process of setting up Android Auto at the time of the update. And maybe worth mentioning was that I had the phones mobile data on as well, car connected to the phone also via Wi-Fi. Whether this combination of phone/car connectivity had anything to do with it, I just don't know, but either way, the system was 'updated' without me having to send a log file.

For the Map update, I will again have my phone connected to the car and have mobile data switched on, and I'll see what happens after the map update with regards to the Ford website and the system being informed of the update.

Maybe this will help anyone having this log file Ford system issue.

The Mk3 Kuga will send and download data to/from FMC servers including sync updates and maps If your vehicle is connected to a Wi-Fi. On the FMC sync/maps page it should give an option to update via USB or WI-FI

Well that expalins that then. Yes, it is indeed a Mk3.

That’s interesting, hopefully it works. I haven’t been on sync 3 for a while as I’d thrown in the towel with it.

 

I wonder if other manufacturers have issues with their customers updating their in car navigation system.

Hi there, I updated my maps on my 68 plate Kuga last week but can't log this with the Ford map update site. All the files appear to be on the USB Stick including the confirmation file but this file it has no file extension at all. Of course when going back to the Ford Update site it does't recognise it and tells me to check for map updates again. I tried the suggestion above, the SYNC screen tells me that the maps are upto date but when I plug in mu USB stick I get a repeat of the above? Any other ideas out there as it is beginning to get on my nerves! Oh, I also tries manually adding the file extension to the log file but no joy.

 

Are you sending just the log file using the ‘Browse for log file ‘ button on the sync update site. (You have to scroll down to find it)
