Advice on bike carrying

The tailgate of the Kugas are not recommended to carry bike racks from Ford. Options are a tow bar fitting bike rack or roof bars. Thurle are the market leaders and other members would come up with recommendations. If fitting to roof bars, can you lift the bikes onto the roof as may need a small step.
