Hi.

We recently purchased a 2013 Kuga Titanium with the Sony audio system inbuilt. The radio worked fine for a few months then we were unable to find the preset stations as normal and now the entire functionality of the radio is dead. It displays Radio > FM and the frequency but no sound and no functionality.

No matter what we choose from the menu it defaults to FM.
Pressing the 'Station' button displays blank then disappears.
Pressing 'Manual' opens the frequency changer display but cannot alter the frequency in any way.
Pressing 'Scan' does nothing.
Long pressing the Radio button starts the autoscan but it immediately ends with nothing scanned.
All preset buttons do nothing and long pressing them brings up the store screen but nothing happens.

Is this likely to be a fuse issue or something more serious? Or have we somehow locked it up? I assume not an antenna issue since the functionality of the radio should still be ok even if it couldn't find any stations.

Thanks

Dont think it will be a fuse, but you may wish to try pulling the fuse out to see if it resets then radio.

Thanks Phil - pulling the fuse and putting it back in changed the defaulted setting to an AM frequency (rather than the FM one from before) but all errors persist as before. Will try to find a way to test the fuse but just seems strange that the radio displays work but radio doesn't.

There not a lot you can do the audio units, if they lock up unless there is a master reset procedure.

There is a master reset Phil

I came across it last year when I had problems with my unit

I will see if I can find the link I think it was on a American site

How do I reset my Ford Sync system?

MyFord Touch

  1. Access your “Settings Menu” by clicking the cogs located next to the “Home Button”.
  2. Select “Settings” from the list on the right side of the screen.
  3. Select “System” at the top of the list.
  4. Scroll down until you see “Master Reset”, then press it.

It might work but it may be just for Sync itself and not the radio but of course as the radio is controlled via sync you just never know.

From the menu

Completely erase all information stored on the system (phonebook, call history, text messages and paired devices) and return to the factory default settings.
Master reset
Select this option and confirm when Master reset? appears in the audio display. The display indicates when complete and the system takes you back to the SYNCSettings menu

For Sync 1 Master reset
Menu - sync settings option - press OK
Scroll to Master reset

Hope that helps

Ok - so finally found time to look at this again, started engine, radio on and sync working....... so still clueless as to the problem and didn't have to reset anything. Grrr.

Not sure if something loose or some interference from elsewhere, etc but will note the master reset if this persists in being intermittent. To confirm, during the issue it failed to locate any USB device or allow any kind of remote dialling/calling via steering wheel controls or voice activation.

Will try to test everything again when get time but for now it seemed to kick in as normal.

Thanks for all the advice - will post back here if turns out to be an ongoing problem.

Of course could be a plug loose on the back of the radio. Now that could be fun..

Fingers crossed.

Last month I bought a 2014 Kuga, which has a DAB & Aux Sony radio, no issues to start then after an electrical sounding 'crackle' it stopped, or the sound stopped, but the display continued, the parking sensor also worked visually not audibly...took it to a specialist who had to reset it, they suggested disconnecting the battery for half an hour if it did it again...not a long term solution I think...so may have to think of a replacement long term, but the garage I bought it from have been very good and having paid for the initial problem, said they would assist financially in the future...
