I've searched the forum and found the thread with
the link to the Youtube vids but little else.
Anyone have offroad tales to share?
Motoring journos seem to think that the Tiguan is better simply because
it has an offroad button but this seems as though
they haven't done their homework on the Kugas set up.
What do you think?
I read that the Kuga on the 5th gear vid received
heavy damage -they did drive it very badly mind you - anyone know anything more
about this?

I personally wouldn't consider doing much more than a damp/wet field, it's not an off road car it's a SUV that happens to have a 4wd capability to aid traction in certain circumstances... my view anyways, I'd also class the Tiguan the same. The offroad button in the VW don't seem to do much of any use, personally I do actually prefer something like the X-Trail where you have a degree of locking the 4wd system at low speeds but again only to aid traction or keep moomentum. No lsd's in the axles and no diff locking means very limited capability. If you work within those guidelines it's perfectly fine.

Thanks for the info!

It will be interesting to try it. I'm coming from a Disco 3 with decent offroad tyres and the optional active rear diff so will have some adjusting to do on the offroad expectations. Having said that I had a Disco 2 before that which had no diff locks at all -just relied on the traction control via ABS and that didn't do so badly...
