Thanks guys....

After my email, we didnt hear anything back, gave the car the benefit of the doubt & took it out on a long run, no lights on & drove fine on the 30+ miles there, but as soon as we set off back, the EML came on & we had a lack of power on the hills.... so not used it properly since then, but we have had a few things on (family things, personal issues, life changing event last yr), which means we just havent been able to arrange to get the car back to them.... I chased them up again last week & they rang back to book me in, as they now have a new diagnostics machine.... We took the car back in to them yesterday, supposed to be just leaving it 2hrs while they put it on the machine, however, both the EML & engine warning triangle came on while driving, so we left it running so they could actually see it & we also chose to leave it with them for as long as it takes.... as they know, if it's not sorted this time, then sadly I dont want the car, I need it eventually to tow, but it doesnt seem capable... Im just fed up of it all, I dont need all the hassle on top of what Ive been through in my life since last yr

Garage have just phoned this morning - "Hi, just letting you know the car is ready"..... so I asked what the problem was, & he said they have done a dpf re-gen.... I said, you have done this before & it didnt work, & that perhaps they should be fault finding instead?, so he asked how I drove the car, ie did I do lots of short journeys?, to which I said, no, as my kids are not little anymore, so I am no longer doing school runs 5 x a week, that we probably have 2 short journeys a week & the rest is long journeys (60mile round trip to my family, 90mile round trip to my partner family)....Told him I have had 2 ford galaxy's & a vauxhall van, all diesel, so I know about dpf's & short journeys etc & why this is annoying because its happening after a long good run .... so I once again explained that on return of the car, I can drive the car a distance & all is ok, then on the return leg, the EML comes on.... I said I wasnt going to waste my time coming for the car, to only be ringing them up next week with the same issue, that I need to get a towbar fit, but I cant do that until I know the car is right, I also cant commit to booking a holiday as I dont know if the car will be capable of towing.... that they need to now check the car, before I come to collect it... & also told him that maybe the dpf needs cleaning? ....

Feeling a bit hacked off tbh....

Reading what you've said they’ve had the car back again for 9 days and done a regen saying its all ok. When you eventually pick the car up I would be throwing the Sale of Goods Act back at them if you have to return it again, you must be fuming inside

Sounds like a nightmare.
It does sound like a DPF problem with the car trying to re-gen and when it fails the EML comes up ( I had same problem) I would ask them to change the vaporizer ( as these get blocked, failing to supply diesel to re-gen) change sensor, and ask them to REMOVE DPF and get it PROFFESSIONALY cleaned.
If they don't I would expect the EML light to come up every 300-500 miles until the DPF is completely full of ASH and then it will eventually block up.

They rang me on Friday afternoon....."Our technician took the car out for a drive last night, the light came on for him & he saw it first hand" ...... strange, that when we took the car in, both the EML & the warning triangle were on, so we left it running & as I went to book it in, I took the guy out to look, he grabbed one of the mechanics, so they could see the car with the issues in front of them ..... & now they talk like "oh, the light came on" .... anyway he said that they know it cant be the dpf as they have just done the re-gen, so now they have a sensor on order.....

Im still hacked off tho..... when I first went to get the car, it needed an MOT, so the pick up date was delayed & they were getting a sensor then... since then theyve done a re-gen, now another.... now its another sensor..... I just know that the issue wont be solved .... I did ask him which sensor & had they considered cleaning the dpf or checking the earth wire....

Honestly, just reject the car. There are hundreds of comparable cars on Auto Trader alone. Get your money back before it's too late and buy another!
Thanks..... it took us about a yr to finally find this one... I had my other car 4yrs, it was the right size & everything for towing.... before that I had a van about 4yrs, before that a car about 8yrs.... I have to have a certain size etc to match the outfit I tow with, which limits what I can buy, plus I am limited to cash too...

I meant there are hundreds of comparable Kugas (diesel, front wheel drive, mk1) on Auto Trader. It shouldn't be hard to find one in budget. Personally I would never trust a car that had given me this much trouble.

There is a shortage of the (OEM )DPF sensors everywhere as I've been told before.
Like Shezz has said there are lots of other Kuga's out there without the hassle your getting.

Not 100% but I thought you can't do a forced regeneration if the sensor is faulty and it will fail the regen.

It wont do a regen if the VAPORIZER is blocked either.
I tried a static regen with ForScan on my drive, It went through the motions and after 45 minutes of waking up the neighbours.....................It FAILED the regen.
I was not going to put my engine through 45 minutes of high rev's again to have the same result, so got Vaporiser, Sensor, and DPF professionally cleaned ............Been good as gold since (fingers crossed).

Sounds like the garage where @MotherGoose bought the car from don't really know what they are doing. Hope it's not a ford garage.
It is rather annoying, as they are a main dealer garage (not Ford) so you would think they should know, as theyre not some tin pot outift.... I was told that they had got a brand new diagnostics machine.... & when they rang last week, apparently the re-gen had worked! - so I am confused as to how it can "work" then chuck up the light to come on? .... as my partner says, they probably hope I will get fed up of going back in with it & go elsewhere to have it fixed

Or they’ll find a makeshift solution that gets you 3 months down the line and it’ll all flare up again, but out of “warranty”.

I had a car like this once. Ended up costing me double the monthly repayments. One set to own the car, another set of payments to repair the **** thing monthly.

I chopped it in as soon as I could afford to. I should have rejected it and found another car of the same spec without the grief.

I genuinely hope you get the outcome you want, because if you don’t, it’ll get you down!

I would have thought they would need to send it to ford to fix it. Unless it's a Mazda garage they wont have the expertise in my opinion. I took my other car once to garage who specialised in quite a few cars. In the end he said you will have to take it to Mazda who sorted it in an hour.

To be telling you they have just bought a brand new diagnostics machine should like a bit of BS to me. Your need to tell them after checking it is not possible to perform a forced regen if there is a fault in the system with the sensor or vaporiser and get them to explain exactly what they have done. Tell them they either need to send it to the main dealer or you want your money back in full.

Keep on it - take photos of the symbols and note down all the problems and when they happened!
If you're in doubt, get shot of it and find another - one will appear, I'm sure, frustrating as it is.
You should have a 3 month (?) warranty with the dealer, so make sure you use it!

Thanks guys.... I had a missed call from them last Wednesday...... I returned the call on Thursday, they said the car was ready.... I asked to speak to the service dept.... They said they had fit the sensor & I could come for the car....

So, I told them I wasnt happy, that they had seen the lights on when we left the car with them still running, they were using their new diagnostic machine, they hadnt given me a fault code, but said they had done a regen, & that on talking to others, I had found that it isnt possible to do such a thing, if there is issues with the sensor, so why on earth had they rung me to say it was all ok? & that my refusal to collect the car was correct, as the mechanic saw first hand the light come on when he drove it the following day, like somehow I was driving it wrongly, but then they said it was the sensor, & I said that it had a sensor fit just before we first initially bought the car, so I had little faith in that working too, so off he looked & said he couldnt see a part number for that sensor, so wasnt sure which one had been fit! .... he said the fault pointed to the dpf & that they had now fit the sensor, I said I wasnt going to pick it up, until they had driven it around & made sure the light was definitely not coming on.....

Today I have had a phone call from the garage, from the lady telling me the car is ready, as apparently they have driven it around & the light hasnt come on.....Initially for us, the car drives fine, but it needs a long journey/warm engine, before it comes on, which starts as an intermittent thing, it is usually ok on the outward journey & acts up on the return, then on the next start up, doesnt come on, then comes on again once the engine is fully warmed up & so on.... so if theyre just simply driving it around the block & parking back up until the next day, it wont come on.... the car needs to be stopped & started during the same day of driving it....

Im so reluctant to go collect it... as I just have so little faith in it being fixed....

Reluctantly, we went to collect the car on the 14th April..... I made my feelings clear to the garage, so they knew how I felt on the matter.

Anyway, it was driving with no issues on the way back, of which we had done a longer detour, as the traffic was horrid. Then we took it out locally the day after - Good Friday - again no issues. We had a good long run on Easter Saturday - 35mile to visit my family, then another 20mile to visit another family member, then a 10mile trip to visit my partners family, then the 45mile trip back home ..... a mix of motorway, A roads etc - all good....

Since then, it's just been a couple of trips to the shops, again all good so far.

Not uncrossing my fingers yet, as this could just be a temporary fix.

With the cost of diesel, we have used my partner's petrol smaller engine car for the last 2 longer journeys.

Will keep you all posted. The Kuga has a 12month warranty on it.

Since getting the car back in April, all has been well regarding the issue, that they finally seem to have fixed?

We have had numerous 60mile round trips to visit my family, & 90mile round trips to visit my partner's family, the usual local driving to the supermarket, retail park & general errands around the area. We did a 400mile round trip in May & a 500mile round trip in July. No lights showing up, driven fine. Hopefully it stays that way?

We had a squeak noise start up in April, got our local mechanic to take a look, it was a brake caliper that was sticking - all sorted.

Last week, quite randomly, the car simply wouldnt start. It had worked fine all week, no issues.

It was just making a clicking sound. We tried the spare key fob, still nothing. We moved position of the key fob(s) to be near the steering column etc, still nothing. We called breakdown service out, as the Kuga was at the front of our drive, blocking in our other car. The car battery was not showing full charge, he tried knocking the starter motor, they jump started it, then he was checking the wires too, we managed to swap cars around in our drive. Breakdown guy spoke to our local mechanic on phone to explain the issues/what he had done etc. Our local mechanic came out on Monday, once again we jump started it & he took it in. He's replaced the starter motor, still nothing. He's tried a brand new battery, still nothing, so he's put my old one back. He's now trying the wiring loop.

Any suggestions?
