Has any got on to the fact that only the titanium comes with the footwell lights in the drivers and passenger side., well your wrong. If you are poor like me and could only afford the zetec well just check your footwells just under the dashboard and there are the sockets for the bulbs to go for the footwell lights.

Alls you need to do is buy 2x 5w car interior bulbs and put them in, then hey like magic they work andmakes the interior in the dark look a lot better.

I dont know whyFords do that cause they do itwith the Mondeo, i mean come on how much is it for the bulbs10p. Ifanyone bought the footwell light as a option then you have beenrobbed.

So get out there and get your bulbs and get it working.....

Its not new thing for car company's to do things like that when it comes to wiring as its all to do with production cost being cheaper to keep them as standard as practically possible.

You will find that most ford cars without front fog lights still have the wires there behind the front bumper. A friend of mine had a ford escort without front fogs lights and decided to install them himself much to his surprise when he found out the wires where already their. So all he had to do is cut the holes, plug them in and change the switch in the car.

My first car many moons ago was 205 GTi and when changing the front break pads for the first time I noticed a wire hanging next to each break disc which concerned me at the time. After some investigation I found out that the wireswhere for brake wear indicators but it's not a standard item onthat model.

I couldn't see them - can you point me in the right direction - pics?

Also, on the steering column it has a universal joint that is exposed - would have thought it would have a cover to protect from dust.

Hi cornish if you look under the dashboardyou can feel the socket, were you insert the bulb is facing towards the engine.

The footwell lights are indeed 501s. I modified mine to be 4 led units and so that when they are energised the additional mood lighting in the front (red SMD/leds in each footwell front and rear) comes on but when I switch those on, a diode prevents the standard footwell lamps energising.

Easiest way to get at the footwell lights seems to be to yank the plastic cover off then you can get to everything no problem.

I also did it , it is very simple and costs nothing. I firstly tried with Led's but the result was not like the original. Finally I added a 5W bulb and the result is quite good. Thanks for the tip

Just done likewise on mine, bought a pack of 501 bulbs from Halfords, removed the plastic trim, fitted the bulbs, and refitted the plastic trim, took all of 5 minutes max per side.

Hi,

I have reached around and slotted one bulb in each side, are there any others that I have missed? Both were on the sides closest to the door.

Cheers

What a brilliant little tip, I too bought a pack of two bulbs for about £2 at the weekend, didn't need to remove any trims as the bulbs just slotted straight in.

It would be good to know if there are any other cheep little mods like this??

(I think there are only two bulb holders, one of each side nearest the doors.)

The rear footwells don't feature any kind of lights which is a shame given they are something of a black hole.

I fitted a set of 3 red SMD LED strips on the steelwork under each front seat and the effect they give together with the same under the front fascia each side is lovely. Four areas of nice suffused light on a long trip.

Regards

PJ
