Over the last few months my Mk3 drivers door had rattled intermittently. The rattle appeared to be coming from either the automatic door edge guard or the door lock near the B post. After a visit to a Ford dealer (waste of time) I traced it to the manual door lock on the door frame. Basically the lock had moved half way -from open to locked - causing the mechanism to rattle. Used the kuga key to lock and then unlock the door as show below - problem solved.
