Still the best looking colour on a Kuga by far though.
My opinion of course like 74f on a subaru. Steve Edited by gc8kugasteve - 11 Nov 2011 at 10:49pm |

Hi, Have to agree on colour it looks stunning with darkened glass, etc. However I will reject it and not go ahead with deal if it's not right.

Hi guys, I have been following your chat and I started to get paranoid
I have been checking my bumpers every morning to make sure they don’t change colour
and they haven’t, I’ve had my kuga from
new in October I think I can relax now I don’t think they are going to change. |

The issue with mis-coloured bumpers is not related to their being plastic versus the body being steel. It's simply because the bumper supplier is not being provided with the assembly plant's paint shade chips. During the years of production the body paints change shade for various reasons e.g. to improve opacity and use less paint. On these occassions the bumper (and fuel filler flap, door handle and mirror cap) supplier should be provided with the updated paint shade chip to match. If it doesn't happen the shades drift apart (in the case of Electric white the shade is so off that it almost seems as if the original matching was never done). This wasn't a problem in days gone by when the assembly plants coated the painted parts, as the matching responsibility lay with the same person. But sourcing bumper moulding to outside suppliers, sometimes hundreds of kms away, can result in shade drift. So refusing collection or taking the cars back for re-spray will get the message back to Ford to re-establish the matching exercises.
However this has gone on for so long that it's conceivable that the supplier is struggling to paint to the required shade because there is something amiss with their paint process - which is serious not least because that supplier will be charged the warranty costs. As for the dealers, some don't want to get involved in paint matching (it can have a knock on effect to other body panels - but that's a different subject) so find excuses not to take the car in. Others have broader shoulders (and good painters, paint suppliers and ovens), appreciate the warranty payment, relish a challenge, and get stuck in. |

As to save confusion. I Thought I would place my woes on this thread.
Well folks, after taking my car back to the Ford garage. I have just had a meeting with the Ford body repair center manager (nice guy by the way, he seemed very helpful).
Mind you, as he walked up to the car he said the paint job was well out before we even got to it!
So this asks the question "why is it so out"?
In fact the manager went on to say that it looks like a repair job has been carried out on the bumper. Upon hearing this I thought whaaaaaaaaaaat. The sales guy never said any thing about a bump when I bought it. This is not good.
If the bumper being 20 shades out was not bad enough. When you open the tailgate (boot) you can actually see the grey primer/plastic coming though the very thin paint work. It's hard to explain but it has the apperence of sprinkled chocolate on top of a capacino. The body shop manager was staggered how this had been passed in the first place.
So..... upon ringing the dealership where I bought the car from, the sales guy is unfortunately off today so no luck there. Now I am awaiting a call from his manager (fingers crossed).
I'm sure I will need to wait until tomorrow to get the work finally authorised.
The guys at Ford seem like a nice bunch so I'm keeping the faith.
I will take some pics to post on this site.

After speaking with the manager from Ford, he preceded to tell me that all Kugas have this problem and it was the norm!!!! errrrrrrrrrrrr excuse me for being a little synical but where in the glossy brochure or on the actual Ford website does it say "option" Frozen white with cream bumpers!
I can live with a shade out. However cream is a totally different colour in comparison to white. Why are they not grasping that simple concept! Blue is not Purple!
I pointed out to him that looking all around his showroom/garage the white focus and fiesta ST on display all had excellent white plastic bumpers, so I'm not having the plastic vs metal debate. Let's not even go there as it's a red (pink) herring.
I am now trying to get the body shop manager to call the dealer for authorisation. However nobody is at there desk. mmmmmmmm it's not the first time either. Whenever I pay a visit to the showroom they are all at their desks....... or is this me just being synical again.
To be continued:

Interesting to read this thread.
It took me three months over the summer to finally get Ford to acknowledge this issue and do something about it. After much complaining to Ford Customer Care, I finally had the bumpers resprayed and they are definitely better, although still a shade out I would say. What annoyed me the most was the attitude that this was acceptable and is normal. Plastic v Metal rubbish. The front wings and petrol cap are plastic and they match perfectly. This is my second Kuga and 5th Ford in ten years. It will probably be my last now too. The build quality for a car that cost me £28k is terrible. |

@Sas0875 It's nice to hear a positive story on this subject.
I don't know the legal stand point on an manufactured 11 month old car (of which I have owned it for approx 6 days). But I deffinately want it sorting.......
I'm hoping the guys at Ford value my custom and the after sales care is just as "up beat" as the initial sales pitch.
For now, I'm keeping the faith.

It's probably worth checking for sure that it is a poor repair of damage to the car after it left the plant as in my experience a Ford bodyshop painter would do a good job (and it's a bit coincidental that yours should have been damaged & re-painted when white mismatching is such an endemic issue). Starting to wonder if the bumper supplier's paint facility is out of control and the assemblers on the production line at the Ford plant are fitting faulty bumpers without even looking at them (there are no quality checks these days).
It's being going on for so long that i can't believe that Ford haven't got a grip of this - as you know better than most it's a time consuming major source of stress to customers who have parted with a great deal of money (list price of my Kuga is a massive £31,250!). |
