Dieseltuning do an intelligent tuning box which I had on my Seat made a massive difference they do one for the Kuga which takes it from 140PS to 170PS and 320Nm to 400Nm all for £375 well worth it just ordered mine and I dont even have the car yet. My nephew also has one of these spider boxes from Diesel tuning on his BMW 525 M sport it now out performs the 530d M sport by mile Difference in price between the 525 and 530 £4500 he gets better than this for £375 and better consumption 50 mpg + can recommend these boxes to anyone my seat runs 210 PS and is like lightening and 54 mpg

Our experiance of the Code:Red product installed on the 2.0TDCi engine (Focus & Mondeo)gives a moderate improvement in MPG - The 181bhp/403Nm Code Red System is available now for the Kuga

Midlands based Ford Dealer,Archers of Ashby, are planning to do a demonstrator with the Code:Red software installed

I'm confused...

The Code-Red I get as you remap the ecu itself and change the way in which it delivers fuel etc. based on air temp, revs.  I had this on my MINI and the results were good, basically my standard ECU code with some tweaks.

I don't understand the plug in module as I can't see what they do and if they are so good as a real ecu remap.  I have bad memories of a friend at work who bought an ebay special plug in and had lots of problems with it - how do they work?

If they simply 'fool' the ECU that it is getting more air so it dumps more fuel in I can't see that they as as good as a code red stealth remap.

I am not rubbish-ing the Spider - hey look at their website as it is very good and says lots of tech stuff that must be correct, just want to know a little more.

I remember from yet another car that I had (Beetle Turbo) that REVO used to do a trial of the software - is this something Code-Red will do?  Might be worth having some of the handsets programed with a time-bombed version of the code that they loan people so you can see for yourself - large deposit £150ish to encourage you to return the handset thing.

Anyone got the answer on which is best and how they work?

cheers

The Code:Red system is handset device which allows the customer to upload an updated performance software direct to the PCM.

The handset also stores a copy of the orginal software. You can switch as often as you like the process take approx 4 mins.

The German produced Code Red system is a well established system (see web link www.codered-performance.com ) and is one of the only systems which offers a mechanical warranty an full TUV approval

For warranty reasons the software is 'keyed' to the VIN number of each customer so producing free samples is not an option

We can however offer a reduced (£399) package which does not include the handset - however the customer would have to travel to our workshops in Manchester to have thesoftware uploaded.

Hi wolfman. I have been watching this thread. The Code Red system sounds great. But how are the power and torque curves affected? I can guess that the increased performance is there in the mid and top end, but what about the low-rev area that might be used off road, or towing a trailer? Does that take a hit? Reading about the system, it sounds as if there is a posibility to have more than one remap designed. That is, say, one for off-road  and one for the street?

Any chance of posting some before and after dyno curves?

The spider box does not fool the ECU into thinking it's getting more air so it dumps in more fuel these are the cheap boxes that are available on e bay and also you can do this with a 20p resistor from Maplins and achieve the same effect. The Spider box is effectively a separate control unit that learns your driving style hence the intelligent bit and runs separate software that is user configurable then when it goes in for a service you just remove it and no trace of any performance upgrade.

My brother in law works for Ford technical and was insrtumental in the cosworth cars. The service schedule for what are considered mildy modifiable cars by Ford (this includes the Kuga, Focus & Fiesta hot hatches and top spec mondeos) involves flashing the ECU at every service to wipe any re maps and install the latest Ford Software also shortly the Ford ECU's are going to be encrypted. So using a remap you would have to re install after every service which is not a problem with a hand held unit. Same applies to the plug in you need to remove and refit

I've seen units from DREAMSCIENCE,SUPERCHIPS,REVO & SPIDER tested back to back on a Focus ST and to be fair the dream science unit came out top but the Spider ran it a very close second but was much cheaper

Guess its horses for courses but I have now driven a few cars with the spider units on and the difference is staggering, the BMW in my earlier post says it all.

Code Red Kuga CR180 (181bhp) made is debut on our stand at last weekend’s Ford Fair at Silverstone

Despite the show being aimed at a slightly different market we were surprised at the level of attention the vehicle created.

These upgrades will initially be available via main Ford dealer Archers of Ashby.
