Topic: Tow Bar Installation How ToPosted: 17 Sep 2011 at 11:47am |
|
Last year I used a great How to on this site, whcih detailed how to install a Tow Bar and remove the Kuga rear bumper.
I have to remove the Tow Bar on my car as I am trading it in. I have searched the forum a few times and cannot find the article. Anyone have any good tips ? Mark |

Just thought I'd stick up this web link, which takes you to Westfalia's web site and you can download instructions (pdf format) on how to install your towbar on a specific vehicle, just select your vehicle in the drop down boxes.
I download the detachable one for the Kuga and it's quite nicely laid out, even showing those hidden screws behind the wheel arch covers, all those other screws to get the bumper removed and also shows the small cut out in the bumper. http://www.westfalia-automotive.de/index.php?id=6&L=1 Edited by KugaSpud - 14 Jan 2012 at 7:59pm |

My Kuga comes complete the detachable tow bar option
but no mention with it or in the Kuga instruction book of the wiring set-up. I guess I am being naive/thick but is there a socket somewhere on the vehicle to plug a trailer/ caravan lead into.

Hi FullEnglishIf the towbar was installed by Ford, then look about 6 inches to the left of where the towbar fits into its socket and you should find a 13 pin socket which swivels downthrough about 45 to 50 degrees. You'll have to kneel to locate it first time but once you know where it is you can just feel for it and pull it down.

Eureka! Yes it's there - now I have to find a reason to want to pull anything (behave!)
Not only that a friend with good ears has solved another problem for me. The sat nav lady is not saying 'leftleft' but 'nextleft'. Makes a difference! Now i've just got to go out and find why my remote house front door bell doesn't ring -again!!

Ford fitted tow bars will not have pins 9 & 10 connected so you will not charge your battery/operate ATC if you have it nor will you fridge work when you are towing

The 2 feeds for the pins 9 and 10 can easily be fitted for around £25 for parts., in a couple of hours at home. Earths 11 and 13 are sometimes taped up on the loom with the ring on the end ready for fitment to the earth bolt in the n/s boot area.
Incidentally, the new Cmax has all pins working correctly from the factory, so i guess the next Kuga will have to.
