Well as some of you may know for some unknown reason the door seals on my Kuga have been creaking since I had it. Managed to get the dealer to replace the seals and they were quiet for about a month and then the creaks returned.
More annoying than anything so I asked the internet and she told me that Audi and BMW owners suffer from this and there is a product called Gummi Pflege that fixes it.
The product is designed to keep the door strips fresh and also stops them sticking when it is icy, so an ebay serach saw a tube delivered. Really easy to apply, just wipe it on and let it dry and the seals look nice and new and haven't creaked since.
So, if your door seals creak - this is the stuff, I would also apply it anyway to stop the doors sticking in Winter.
Why mine creaked in the first place is a mystery, could be something that is on the bodywork - who knows??

some plank probably clean your car at the garage with a silicon based cleaner prior to your collection... fatal mistake... as it makes the rubber seals creak!
also cleaning the door seals with bodywork shampoo can do it too... i clean my seals with glass cleaner/white vinegar - doesnt smell too good but it cured the problem on the foucs st and the kuga... glad ya got it sorted anyhow! |

They do.... ;0)
I got a bowl of hot water and added some washing up liquid and used a nailbrush to wash the seals. Once they were dry I added a coating on the top door seals from inside of the door, and then over again from the outside. You do have to give the tube a squeeze and it looks as though it goes on a little too much, but don't worry - just leave it to dry. I also put a layer round the entire inner seal that goes all the way round the door as I was there. Left it all to dry and added a second coat to the top seals as it is these ones that creak,.
Haven't heard a single creak since and before I tried everything to make it quiet and nothing lasted more than a week.
Even if I have to re-apply every month or so it takes a couple of minutes....

Hi Guys have owned my Kuga for 2 months now and have been over the moon with it until this week. With the onset of the warmer weather I have developed an horrendous creaking sound from the drivers window which is very loud and annoying, drop the window a few cms and it stops, weather cools off and yes you guessed it it stops, anyone else had this at all? any advice would be welcome. Thanks. Gilbo.

It is your top door seals that are creaking and it is the edge of the flock bit as you look down on the door from above. Mine has done this since new and a new set of door seals were quiet for about a month and then started to creak. On the first set I tried:- waxing the door frame - lasts a week
- white wine vinegar - two days
- window cleaner - lasts a week
- new seals - lasts a month
- silicon spray - lasts a week
- cleaning the seals when washing car - two weeks
- dealer special treatment that they say costs £300 - two weeks
After I got the seals done I sort of put up with it, then after a really hot day in April was at the end of my rope and asked the internet. There are numerous problems with 3/5 series BMWs, Audis and VW's and the common theme was the top rubber flock type material. Many of the attempts I mentioned had been tried but only one product had cured all.
It is Gummi Pflege and comes in a bottle with a sponge on the top:
I am six weeks in now after some of the hottest weather and not even a creak can be heard - bliss!!!!
All you do (well I did), wash the seals with a nail brush and water with fairy liquid in it, leave to dry. Add one coat of Gummi all over, it goes on clear but as you use the sponge it foams white - make sure you get a good covering. I also did the edges of the top strip from the outside of the door, as well as the entire top seal. I also used it on the edge seal on the door that contacts the door frame when the door is shut as when it is cold it stops it sticking.
So far, really happy - the seals look like new and the best bit is no squeak...
Search the internet and the BMW boys love this stuff, it was even sold by BMW dealers as it cured all problems with seals - especially on the 1series.
I got mine from the bay:
To be honest, if I have to add it once a month I would be happy - but fingers crossed.
Not worth going to the dealer as they just tried their special £300 stuff that they use on the Focus CC, not worth it. Ford wouldn't pay for the seals but the dealer did out of good faith.
Hope this helps.
