Does anyone know how to turn off the infuriating rear wiper that comes on when selecting reverse and the front wipers are operating?
I would like to decide when to use it in the same way that I can decide when to turn the headlamps on...at least there is a switch for the headlights!
Quite prepared to do some wiring alterations if anyone knows how.
Thanks in advance.

Turn off the front wipers when going in reverse as you don't need a clear windscreen if you're going backwards.

Simples....

Yeah,Yeah!
I've been doing this since day one, but get caught out when the fronts are on a slow intermittent setting.
Not so simples.....and I use the mirrors!

That is something that can be very annoying. There is no switch or button or lever.
You just have to turn off the wipers for reversing or you can drive forward only. Most of the time forward is easier, but sometimes it isn't an option.Wink

"Why does it wind me up so much?".....well I like to keep him clean and a bit of drizzle, intermittent front setting is fine. Then you stick it into reverse and 'squirt/wipe' on the rear screen and I've got a scruffy looking back window. Sad but true! Mainly though I want it to be my decision, not overruled by some electrical designer who thought it would be a great idea and not offer me the choice. Anyone noticed how few people use lights in fog? That's because their lights are on 'Auto' and the sensors don't work...another decision taken from you. Best not to think, just point it and go!
Mr.HugaKuga: I'll check out your comment next time it rains...interesting.
Mr.Eggsy: Nice place to live, been there, done that, but it rains down there as well!
Have a nice weekend y'all.

As sad as it may sound this was a selling point to me! My alfa had the sense to add a rear wipe when engaging reverse in the rain, and also added a clean up woosh to the front window 10 seconds after the initial cleaning of the front window to catch any drips.
I went from Alfa to Vauxhall and was disappointed by how un-intelligent it was. Vauxhall to Ford and the technology has come back!
