Topic: Grey Plastic Edging Posted: 24 Jul 2010 at 7:24pm |
Anybody had what looks like white marks on the plastic wheel arch and door edges etc.
Do I have to clean with plastic bumper cleaner after every washing as this is the only way I can remove it?

Hi AL. HEF I've had the same problem with my Kuga since new, 7 months old now, I have to clean the plastic trim after each wash. I use Autoglym bodywork shampoo conditioner and their bumper care. I think that maybe the plastic trim is below standard quality, so gets stained with something in the shampoo. Bob

Thanks for the reply Bob. At least I know now that it is not only me with this problem. I will just have to keep on using the Autoglym bumper care after every wash.
Thanks AL.

I always thought that plastic was cheap looking and just didnt look right on the car. Around the wheel arch should have been like all other cars and just the same colour as the car, maybe keep it below the doors but thats it

Had my door plastic trims replaced under warranty for this same reason - dealer was really helpful but Ford Customer Services were appalling. Took some legal advice and threatened action over the the poor quality in the end. Must admit that I am very disappointed with the overall quality of my Kuga - it's a heap of junk. I'll never buy a Ford again.

The white folloying washing is likely to be wax, use autoglym bumper care, it's really good.cut an old sponge up into say 2" square apply it to the plastics then leave it to soak in for 30min or so then just buff the plastic & wipe any excess off, careful to not get any on the the paint work, it wont do it any harm but will just make it streaky. The autoglym bumper care is a oil based product so it repels water, dirt ect so when you wash you car it dosen't allow the wax to dry on the plastic, lasts for a while also.
I was given this tip by a pro detailer

With reference to my earlier post: I have to apply Autoglym bumper care after every wash with Autoglym bodywork shampoo conditioner. I only leave the Kuga a max of two weeks before cleaning, and only do about 4000 miles per year, so the bodywork is not bad before cleaning, I still think I have poor quality plastic trim. Bob

Think the issue here is that we shouldn't have to take such measures to keep the plastics looking good. They are cheap tack and we have paid for much better. We have paid 'top dollar' for our Kugas and got sub-standard build quality. It's simply not good enough.Don't put up with it - do what I did and force Ford to replace them under warranty.

I agree . . . . use poor quality plastic and it results in baggy, loose, badly fitted trim, Re-Cycled Plastic?? Welcome to the 21st Century, where cars are not the only ones to get rear ended!! another example of a second best green eco compromise/alternative, is car paint finishes, which are now, much softer and less robust. Re Fading trim. Many years ago I was told by a large North West Dealer chain that ABS plastic exposed to the elements (UV) will fade and oxidisidisation will occur, however just wet your finger and rub it will remove that surface film???? I prefer to use something like the link provided below, but yes, yes ongoing fading plastics in 2010 is not good, not sure who manufactures Ford's plastics, a well known, global company beginning with the letter B, perhaps, who knows? http://spautopia.co.uk/backforgood.aspx
