Topic: Zetec Seats Fraying Posted: 19 Jul 2010 at 2:41pm |
Hello all.
I've been reading this forum with much interest over the last couple of years and look forward to receiving your comments to an issue I am currently having. I noticed within the first year that my front seats had started to fray, so had them replaced under warranty. Mr Ford advised that he was not aware of this issue (despite a previous forum posting http://www.kugaownersclub.co.uk/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1197&KW=fray&PID=10236&title=seats-fraying#10236) and that all should now be well. However, within 3 months of having them replaced they started to fray again. After a bit of a dispute with Mr Ford they agreed to replace them again in May. I have today contacted the local Ford garage, less than 2 months after they had been replaced, to advise that the problem had started happening again. I only drive around 10-12,000 miles a year, so it can't be down to the mileage for wear and tear. Has anyone else had this problem, as I keep on getting told that it is not a known issue?
Thanks
DAJJ

Had my zetec for 15 or so months now and there's no visible sign of fraying or creasing. Hope you get yours sorted soon though.

Well DAJJ, or should we call you "fidgety bum", there is no way wear like this should happen so quickly even if you were jiggling about all the time.
Perhaps it's the metal underwear, or maybe the lack of it - hairy backsides wreak havoc!

Thanks Gutbucket. I'll let the wife know your comments, as she also drives the Kuga. The car is booked in for Thursday to be investigated, so I may have to leave the metal underwear with them (or maybe the wife) .

Handbook states not to wear studed or rhinestone encrusted leather pants whilst driving!

Morph,
I am extremely insulted that you could think I would wear such clothes. What does it say about PVC?

PVC should only be used with a good dusting of talc (or so I've been told)
With latex avoid contact with mineral oils and you'll be fine
Rhinestone encrusted leather pants are also safe to wear - as long as the rhinestones are on the inside!
Oh and you won't be the first Kuga owner to drive around in a gimp suit either if that's your thing - again this doesn't cause undue wear on the seat.
As your missus also drives the Kuga - if all else fails blame her for the damage
Also are you sure this doesn't happen when you are in the Kuga together - biting on the seats as no pillow to hand?

It's mainly on the edge behind the knees on both front and back seats, but also on some of the vertical edges.
