    Posted: 08 Mar 2010 at 1:21am
When I brake and turn right, particularly on a ramp, i.e driveway, I am getting a knocking noise from I believe the inside of the rear door.

I have clipped in the seatbelt on that side, so I know it's not the buckle banging.

Anyone else had anything similar ?

Mark

Glad you have posted this question, I have had exactly the same for weeks now, been driving me mad, I have checked seatbelts, even today checked under the seat to see if anything was rattling around, have checked the boot, even thought it might be something in the boot banging against the side of the car, but realistically new it couldnt be, the noise I hear is a banging noise as you say when going over the odd bump and when turning corners sharply. I am now convinced the noise is coming from either the rear passenger door (behind driver) or the seatbelt housing between the two doors, the housing looks like it comes off reasonably easy, but mine is going in the garage shortly for new rear light clusters (condensation problem, talked about alot on here) so will get them to take a look, can you let me know if you find the problem, likewise also if I find out.
Regards
Mike

Maybe take a look here. It was from earlier build dates, but who knows with robotic production what may happen during assembly?

Hope it´s nothing so serious and soon fixed! Good luck, qxq.

qxq  Thanks for the link, I will mention this to the dealer when mine goes in, I have logged onto the etis site but couldnt find the bulletin, do you no what the actual problem is and the solution they recomend?
This is a quote from the link you gave:

There is a fix for the creaking/knocking noise from around the D-pillar. Just quote Etis technical service bulletin No. 79/2008.

Hi. No problem. I wasn't sure what was involved, but a bit further down the same topic there is a post from Grizzly who wrote "The 'repair' as per the Service bulletin is to apply the solution, a lubricatant come sealant, between the metal skins around the tailgate."
In the end, on a couple of cars, the body shop had to add some spot welds, as well.

Hope that helps! Smile

Thanks quatroxquatro  My Ford dealer informs me most cars develop rattles of some kind, the amusing thing is when two people are sat in the vehicle, driver and passenger the same noise appears to be coming from totally different directions, I repeat most cars have rattles but seemingly not my Honda.   Just read the post quatro directed us towards and it makes very scary reading. Lets just hope that we British sorry Europeans have ironed out all the little nasties before Ford goes "Global" into the US where consumer law (Lemon Law) is a lot stronger, perhaps if Kuga had been launched in the US first then maybe we would not be having so many quality issues. Hey!  just a thought

Back on thread, my 'knocking' noise comes from deceleration and turning right, particulalrly whent he body is flexing. It appears to be coming from the offside rear door area.

I suspect it's something door related.

The vehicle is waiting for somw warranty work to the rear hatch seal, so they can look at it next week, and try to sort out both issues.

The very nature of knocking noises means, they will need a few attempts to get it right. I am ok with that, they just need to sort it. I had the same problem with a Frontera that did the same sort of noise, only on the right, and only in the wet. A new suspension replacement and all was cured.
This could be suspension related I suppose.

More when I get some data.

A quick thought.

While cleaning the Kuga on Saturday last I noticed that the door reveal for the tailgate was getting the paint knocked off it in the area of the left support damper. I checked the bolts holding the plate which connects the damper to the door itself to find that a couple were not driven fully home and were hitting the bodywork. The damage didn't look like a constant rubbing but rather as a result of being knocked against occasionally. Tightened them up and touched up the damage.

Strikes me this would be a knocking when the body flexed and the damper bolt hitting the body there could possibly sound from the driver's seat like it was on the rear door.

Could this be the source of the 'rear door' knocking that people are reporting? Might be worth a quick squint at your tailgate openings just incase.

I have examined the doors, and don't quite like the way they feel, it almost feels like they are rattling against the strikers.

I will update this when the dealer lets me know what they think is causing it.
