Hi Delboy, personally I would rather trust and take note of KOC members posts than any new car retailer, and if this offends any dealer out there then  . . . . . Tough!!

Very impressed with the responses, thank you everyone.

Bennettp23, no worries regarding the age comment, thought it was very funny.....better prepare yourself for similar comments sooner than you think...and when you need to take the kids (3 teenagers), dog (English springer), she who must be obeyed and mother of she who must be obeyed all on holiday together....you will need a tow bar....(by the way...not in the Kuga).

As far as the on/off switch is concerned, as you know you will get one if the sensors are factory fit (as previously mentioned you can see it on page 6 and 18 of the Kuga brochure).

As for the factory fitted tow bar, sounds right, but, really do not know.  The tow bars fitted on the other cars are removable dual plug (13pin??) electrics fitted by an excellent small firm in Milton Keynes...if anyone wants the name let me know....they are great to deal with, genuinely no bull and great prices.....would get them to fit over Ford any time.

As for the ladies parking comments.....believe it is a myth, just as many women impress with their parking as men do.......unfortunately I'm a bit of a "Reginald" (if anyone remembers the ads)...a lot better when I am towing something.

Lenses.....think I have got to the point when I know there are things I am going to have to live with.  The car has been sitting on the drive since we collected it as the wife had a knee operation the same day and hasn't been able to drive since.....there are signs of internal condensation when it has been cold at night, but, will wait and see for a while.....any feedback of you experiences gratefully received....as mentioned previously probably need as much information as possible as I would not trust any comments by the senior sales guy at my dealer.

If it has not become too boring...will let you know how I get on.

The factory fit sensors are integrated into the factory towbar wiring installation, which programs the rear sensors to be automatically disabled when the (trailer) electrics are plugged in. So you don't need a manual switch, if everything is configured as it should be.

Hi Kuga Taff   My dealer service manager, told me that the rear light clusters and headlamp seals had failed. OMG yet another line from the infamous, Ford Book Of Fob-Off's, perhaps they should publish it and WH Smith's can sell it?

hiya delboy,

Not sure if anyone has answered this for you already, but reference your first post about the front and rear lights leaking water, my dealer told me yesterday that due to the split boot, the rear light fixtures are not sealed!???, pretty stupid if you ask me but as for the front ones i am unable to comment i should be picking up my Kuga in the next day or 2 so i will ask him for you if you like and get back to you!

Hi Delboy,

No offence with the old joke, it was just that a joke.

Thanks for taking the time to write such a comprehensive reply, I appreciate it.

I will definately get a switch put in for both front and rear, if I have to get the sensors put in.  However as per another post I have done today in the 'Tracking a new build' topic I think maybe I will get factory fitted ones anyway.

Maybe read that post and put your VIN into etis to see if your sensors were listed, although I think probably not by the sounds of it.  I would be intersted to see if you have 'Convenience Group 3' listed?

Thanks

If i am honest the Ford fitted sensors seem to be a pain in the rear end (no pun intended).  We got the parking Dynamics sensor, and really considering the cost and the fact you can't see it and it only works when the car is in reverse then (no on off switch) then I can't really fault it.  Even tho I am a woman I am not bad at reversing so really only need it for closeness as it does appear that you are alot closer than what you actually are when looking through the rear window.

Any way this is just my view - not sure how they work with tow bars but for something like £60 I am happy and haven't any visual sensors - so look like I am even better at reverse parking lol

Hi Bennettp23.......despite the comment about age.....there are several reasons I think you should consider, now if I could just remember them....another sign of old age...

1. My wife will use the car to commute to work, this will invariably involve sitting in a traffic jam, this will set of the front and potentially rear sensors...very annoying particularly as some of the retrofit kit have very loud bleepers
2. When you sell the car you may be selling to someone who does want to tow something.  I would suggest you check how many sensors you are getting on the vehicle, for a car of this size I believe it should be 4 on the back, this would also help should you or, anyone else fit a towbar (however, my Galaxy has four fitted to the rear, but, still tends to beep continuously from time to time when we put the towbar on...hence the value of the on/off switch).
3. My Galaxy and Volvo XC90 will have times when the sensors go off for no apparent reason, could be dirty I suppose or some other factor effecting them, the switch is invaluable.

If you do go for the on off switch, you need to check whether it works only for the fronts or for both sets and be careful where they put it. Perhaps you could get the switch before they fit and take your time finding the right spot (that's what we will be doing).....my dealer has suggested underneath the steering column.

The latest on our car after several more conversations with the dealer......first conversation with the salesman too long to go into, but, amazing how many times he could change his position, how selective his memory was regarding conversations that had been had and very surprising that he seemed to think that if he told one of his colleagues something and they passed on his comments to me they were not valid as I could only rely on what he had told me direct.....when I asked if I or his colleagues had misunderstood anything he said, he ignored me.  Not a pleasant experience.  But, spoke with his boss today and certainly a very different approach from him....genuinely seems to want to do something to salvage the reputation of his dealership....so waiting to see what he comes up with.....is that naive...or, perhaps just an indication that us oldies expect to do business with honourable people (seems a very old fashioned expression).

However, at the end of the day I am not going to get the car I ordered and paid for so there really isn't much I can do.

I'm going to get rear sensors added to my new kuga either from an after Market supplier or the dealer. Is there any reason, other than having a tow bar, that I should ask for a switch? I won't ever install a tow bar (I'm too young )

Yes I do,  it looks a bit unsightly to be honest,  the location of this on/off button/switch was never discussed , it is situated to the right of gear lever but higher up on the silver gear lever trim base plate directly under climate mono dial. But I think the sensors you describe are the same ones supplied by dealer.  Bit of a delay fitting them (was not there) when they arrived they were the wrong colour?  which makes me think that perhaps these have been botched by some loony with a spray paint can.
