Hi Folks,

HAd the kuga for about 3 weeks now and I'm not sure if the clutch - gearbox is showing a problem. Does anyone else have a problem with a very sticky first gear as it feels very notchy. Secondly, if I press and release the clutch pedal quickly whilst the car is in neutral, there is a about a half a second delay from taking my foot off the clutch before the pedal comes back up. Is the clutch on the Kuga hydraulic? Very odd. Can;t remember if it was like that from new or not. I've only done about 250 miles so far.

Cheers..

My gearchanges particularly 1st & 2nd were notchy and did loosen up as i put some miles on the clock, loosen not loose so still a positive change. Clutch could it be the vehicles newness, are there any carpets obstucting the pedal operation, sounds a bit like the Toyota gas pedal operation.
If in doubt ask a dealer for his assessment they are the experts good luck.

Hi Moondust,

The first thing I checked was for loose fitting mats - carpets and there were no bits snagging. I called the dealer today and I'm takiing it in on Tuesday morning. Also, had a bit of a scare this morning. On the way to the station, i had to break hard and skidded on the light snow covering we had. No sign of ABS kicking in nor traction control. Lucky for me the roads were not busy at that time in the morning so I managed to get the car under control. So I also reported that to the dealer. At this rate I'll have a long list of issues before I get to Tuesday.

Hi Kuga49,
I have read on here somewhere that the ABS will sense and detect and activate when there is friction to brake against!! so snow ice and even wet roads are off limits as the wheel locks and (slides) cannot grip as the ABS needs to sense wheel/road friction then grip release grip release the brakes, it cannot do this on a skidding wheel. The ESP (electronic stability programme) includes the EBA (electronic brake assist) and operates on these road surfaces negating ABS utilising a traction assist programme instead. The wheels need to revolve for ABS to re-act is my understanding but im no expert check this out. Good luck.

Apologies for not getting back anyy sooner on this.  Getting home late from work, the last thing I wanted to do was to sit in front of the PC. So, as I'm working tonight, from home of course, I thought I'd bring this up to date.

I took the Kuga back to the dealer and a master mechanic took it out for a spin. He agreed that it was not unusual for a new gearbox to fail, apparently the syncros fail for whatever reason and also, Kugas can suffer from clutch drag?  Anyway as I have to book it in for a free 1500 miles check up, I have until then to see if it gets any better or not.

As for the ABS issue, it has not done it since. Very odd. So, I'llbe keepiing an eye on this along with a spare pair of undercrackers tucked under the drivers seat just in case Big smile
