andy, the tyres need something to grip, so if the road was either wet, cold or a bit greasy, the ABS will not help very much... there still has to be friction for the tyres to stop the car. Also, if the EBA (I think that's what it's called, Emergency Brake Assist?) senses that you have stood on the brakes quickly, maximum braking force is applied and probably you won't feel the ABS working so easily through the brake pedal. I believe that is one reason that ABS is sometimes defeated in cars that have a dedicated 'snow' driving mode, as ABS can actually increase stopping distances in those conditions. Fortunately, I cannot remember the last time I had to stand on the brakes hard.
And I hope the cats get used to you being around, and remember to cross the road somewhere else!

the sound definately sound like the ABS to me aswell and also may be the transmission using 4WD as it looks like you are in the range of where it changes due to loack of grip

Yes, it's just the ABS system and is normal when the wheels are skidding. The brakes lock and unlock, and this is the noise you hear on the video.

Isn't it just the ABS crashing the brakes? It seems to happen when you brake, so I would think that is going to be the ABS grabbing and releasing the disks trying to stop the Kuga.
ukcobra... no locking hubs on a Haldex AWD system!
As andytdci says, if it happens all the time, when braking normally on dry road then I would be a bit concerned.

Sounds like it happens when you come off the power. Have you had any work carried out? Could be anything but things to worry about would be engine/x member mounts or suspension components loose. If the kuga had drum rears it might of been a loose shoe. Does it only happen off road or does it happen on Tarmac.
Does the Kuga have a top stabilising mount on the engine? That could make a racket if it's loose.
I'd get it booked in myself.

That does not sound normal. It almost sounds like the automatic hubs are dis-engaging. I used to have a similar sound, only when I put my 4WD Frontera into 2WD and reversed to unlock the front hubs.
At least you have Snow to test your AWD, I am sure it will be a few years before I can test mine for odd noises !
