This might be a dumb question. I have an iPhone 3GS, and the Sony DAB with USB, and the Y-cable....

- When I have bluetooth enabled on the iPhone, and the Y-lead connected (to charge the phone), I can use the phone thru the radio ok, but cannot listen to music, or switch tracks, with the headunit in "Ipod" mode. The track names are shown, but no sound. Instead I have to press the Aux button again to put the headunit into "BT" mode. I can hear the music then, but cannot skip tracks.

- So if I switch off bluetooth on the iPhone, leave the Y-lead connected, I can listen to music fine thru "Ipod" mode on the head unit (and switch tracks), but obviously I cannot access the phone.

What I want to do is have Bluetooth enabled on my phone, be able to access the phone thru the headunit, and also be able to play music in "iPod" mode (and therefore switch tracks). Is this possible ? Or am I missing something !!

I had a lot of problems with the Sony headunit not recognising my iPhone, but I've found that if I connect the phone to the Y-lead BEFORE turning on the ignition (and saying "NO" to the message that comes up on the phone), 9 times out of 10 it will connect.

Hey KugaNo -
I've been having exactly the same issues (same set up too - 3GS, DAB, etc).  I've found that the iPhone is able to either stream the music over bluetooth (with a little icon at the bottom of the 'ipod' screen) or to change it to play music through the dock connector, just tap the little icon and select 'dock connector'.  However, I've found that the whole set up is just a bit too unreliable with the iPhone (sometimes it works, sometimes it takes about 5 mins to work, sometimes not at all, returning to the BT streaming after changing tracks etc...although I think is just as much an Apple issue as a Ford one). So have decided to keep my 'old' 60Gb iPod Video permanently connected - and it works a treat.  Not ideal, but good enough....

Unless of course, someone else has a bright idea....!

For those that look at this forum and wonder how a car company can be so arrogant as not to allow one to 'stop' music, I just cannot answer to that one. But something to cheer, IOS4 on iPhone now recognises the Ford Y Lead, autoplay no longer happens immediately but now starts after a phonecall, Pause is still at 15 secs. If anyone has found a way to stop the iPod bit playing whilst using either BT or the Y lead then please share.

Three 'F's come to mind, Ford, is the only printable one!

With regards to my previous post (about switching off Bluetooth music streaming, but leaving the Bluetooth phone function switched on), could this be a solution...

Admittedly, not brave enough to try it yet....!

Hi all,
Newbie here.
Looking for some help if possible.
Problem - Can't get Ipod to work 100% with radio.
Equipment - Sony DAB Radio & 2 Generation Ipod Nano.
Connection via ford "Y" lead.
I can get sound on the radio, but can't get any data info from the USB part.
No controls & track info etc.
On the radio menu i can't get the Ipod to connect - Always says Ipod/USB not connected.
The radio says AUX in?
I'm pretty sure my lead aint broke, as its charging my Ipod when connected.
Is there a setting within the radio I need to activate?
Or some fussy way to get it all going?
Any help advise would be gratful.

Disabling A2DP on a 'jailbroken' iPhone does work on iOS3x, the new jailbreak for iOS4 only works if you start editing the Bluetooth PLID file, I returned mine to normal as the jailbreak upsets too much.
The problem is simple, the Ford unit sends the 'autoplay' command via A2DP to mirror the 'autopause' command to allow other sources such as the phone to stop the bluetooth A2DP. The USA version (Microsoft Sync) allows the disableing but Ford Europe cannot get into their heads that one phone is now satnav, mp3 etc and all we want is to control when we want music. The problem is not just an iPhone one, I tried my wife's Nokia 6610i and it autoplays as well.
