Topic: ipod connection Posted: 11 Aug 2009 at 11:36pm |
Hi all,
I am like a number of members still confused around what to do if we didn't get the ipod option factory fitted. I want to get the ipod to play and be controlled by the unit! The option to use Belkin by one member, is certainly an option, but won't allow the cd/navigation unit to control the ipod and has unsightly wiring.
My dealer indicated they may be able to sort something out, but after a number of attempts with wrong cables supplied by Ford, my dealer gave up indicating that at the moment it wasn't available as a dealer accessory and could not help until such an option is available.
If you look at the Kuga brochure, the factory option is only available if you have bluetooth as well as voice control. Both are already installed in my Titanium. So, by definition based on the inference from the brochure, additional cable to the centre console must be only a simple connect to a spare block in the existing wiring harness.
Has anyone managed to have such an 'extension' fitted to their existing wiring harness as a dealer extra, or even had a peak to see what is there? Is it really that simple to fit a new cable with an USB at one end under the tunnel to a block in the existing wiring harness?
I realise that by using the 3.5mm jack from the aux output to the ipod headphone socket will provide music to the car speakers, but no control from the 6CD unit! Give me more control guys - hands free with over 6ooo songs on my ipod to get through and not manually fiddling when I am driving; (not that I would - I get my 18 year old son to do that; but his choice of music ain't mine)!!

I am in the same boat unfortunately. Dealer has his cash and is now not interested. I had a peek under the centre console and the gaiter for the gearlever. Cant really see much. Next step is to remove the head unit and see if there is a 'usb' connection port that a lead can be attached to!
Will be back in touch when I find time to do this!!!!!!

Version 3.12 seems to improve matters with the iPhone automatically pauseing when changed from Bluetooth to Aux, radio, iPod or phone. There are continuing problems with the TomTom App with or without the expensive car mount as it is not possible to split the A2DP & the Hands Free bluetooth function. Ideal world would play directions via the built-in speaker and retain bluetooth for the audio and phone to the car system. I have connected an iPod to the Ford cable and that works very well.
Otherwise it is a choice of having no music on the iPhone, listening to directions via bluetooth but no music but having the bluetooth carphone working. I remain hopefull that either Navigon or TomTom can resolve this.

Just to add to the above post,
Has anyone successfully retro-fitted a BT/VC Phone Interface + USB Connect to thier Kuga yet.
I was reading on other forums saying it is possible on other models just don't know if it is on the Kuga.

Yes, I have had it done due to Ford's mistake. There is a complete kit comprising Harness's, replacement interior light (with microphones), varient 2 PSE (Bluetooth, Phone & USB), Steering column replacement incl the VC button. requires the system reprogrammed as well. They managed to disable the cruise control as well. Took almost 6 weeks to finish but you might be lucky and not have muppets at your local dealer. :
