Got my Kuga late Thursday, Love the car to bits.
But..!!!!
Friday I did think there was a problem with the fuel flap not locking.
After calling my local dealer today, to my bewilderment the fuel flap on the Kuga DOES NOT HAVE A LOCKING FLAP.

In the handbook its says "Central locking also locks and unlocks fuel filler flap"

It does have a nice 6 inch funnel which should soon become ready available to open inhibitor.
If not then any bit of hard plastic tube at the right radius will open the inhibitor???

Why did they not fit locking flap?
Anyone Any ideas?

It's called Ford Easy fuel, aimed at preventing mis-fuelling. Has anti-syphon technology and as only a fuel filler nozzle (or, as you suggest something of exactly the same diameter) will go in it, there is no need for a locking cap. The funnel is for when you run out of juice and discover you can't get the jerry can pipe in...
All new Mondeo and Focus come with it now too.

I´m hoping that Ford saw this as a potential issue and put some kind of grid further down the fuel filler neck so that having opened the inhibitor, a syphoner´s tube cannot pass all the way to the tank. If not then there should be one!!

Confused

Hi Koogaa
Thanks for the reply.
Nice to know about the anti-syphon device thats fitted. My dealer did confirm this on Saturday when I called.
Still a worry if someone tries to pour something inside.
Perhaps there is a device for this too?
imho, would still like to see a locking fuel flap for peace of mind.
Cheers
Dave

Seemingly there's a locking cap available in America, not sure whether it'll fit our cars though. The anti-syphon thing is there by fluke really, the valve is there originally to stop refuelling emissions but makes it virtually impossible to syphon...

Having just taken delivery of my Kuga yesterday, I now understand the issue!

Whilst I'm not worried about ther being no fuel CAP, I don't understand why the FLAP does not lock, particularly as it says it should in the manual.

Did anyone get to the bottom of this with Ford by any chance?

Hi Mondeoman

Yes Technical did return a reply to my letter and said.

Dear ******

Ford have developed in conjunction with security and insurance industry and have attained their security accreditations for the Global market.

Our engineers are confident of the operation of this system and have introduced it to other vehicles such as the Mondeo and Focus, they feel there is little benefit to be gained from an external lockable plastic fuel cap in today’s climate, as many opportunists would forcibly remove the component should they wish to gain access, this further complicates overhaul repair cost etc.

The outstanding easy fuel system is fitted with an internal flap that should only release (effectively locking the filler access opening) when the correct nozzle is applied. This may reduce the possibility of objects being placed into the tank, when coupled to a narrow bore filler pipe and a restriction in the lower section of the filler tube may assist against the siphoning of fuel. Regrettably, for obvious reasons there are no exploded views of the fuel filling system available for service release.

The fuel adaptor is supplied one per vehicle, should a replacement be required you need to offer chassis number for identification of the vehicle that should confirm its for a legitimate replacement.

Regards ***** Technical advisor.

Dave

I think this type of cap is the most ridiculous invention.  All common rail engine hate, absolutely hate water, what happens when you pressure wash the car???, when it rains heavily?  The dirt will stick to the mouth of the filling tube and be carried away in the tank.
I would like to see the state of the device in 5 years time, especially if you drive on dusty roads.
I'm an engineer, and always wondered where would the last guy in the class work one day....
I think I found him, in the Ford fuel filling tube design dept...
I might make myself a little cap for it.
