Hallo to everyone,
I'm thinking to upgrade my Kuga's Sony DAB CD/MP3 audio & bluetooth entertainment system to Blaupunkt's Travelpilot FX infotainment system (as Ford names it). Prior proceeding though to any purchase I would like to know - if anyone is aware of - a couple of things about its characteristics such as:
1:Has the capability to play CD/MP3 disks (like my Sony unit does) or it only plays MP3 files from an external device at AUX or iPOD position?I have so many CSs full of thousands MP3 written lists of songs and I would prefer to keep it this way!
2: Has the capability to "accept" a reverse camera which along with my parking sensors will pass all available information to the screen (like the Travelpilot NX does) or not?
For weeks now I try to find anywhere the appropriate handbook but still had no luck except paying for a copy. That's why I turn to our trusted forum just in case someone has the same unit installed and would like to offer his/her knowledge about this.
At the other hand I have second thoughts about choosing another unit instead of the original that Blaupunkt produced for Ford (Travelpilot FX or NX). It's a 7" unit which has all the goodies such a unit could have and maybe even more anyone could imagine and ask for. There are several brands to choose from including MAXYON,ETO,TTints(RSmmi) and also others as well.My main concern though is whether or not these units are fully compatible with the car's systems such as bluetooth, voice controls, wheel steering controls e.t.c.I was told that if a unit isn't 100% compatible, it's very likely to cancel all of vehicle's functions leaving you only with the controls provided by the unit itself.I definitely would not like to be faced with something like this!
I'm looking forward for your answers prior proceeding to a move of any kind.
Thanks
Nick.

Hi forum,
I'm thinking to replace my Ford-Sony cd/mp3 DAT unit with Blaupunkt Travelpilot FX or NX,depending on what will show up on ebay and their associated prices as well.I'm only interested on the units with reverse camera option though. There aren't all FX/NX units reversing camera capable according to the following link  http://fordnavigation.fw.hu/kugasatnav.pdf
My question is what the dates associated with each part number indicate.I wonder if it has to do anything with the car's actual manufacturing date according to its VIN number! Question For example my Kuga which  is built on 01/2009 is somehow "restricted" to be equiped with units before that date or the VIV date are irrelevant with the SatNav unit part number date?Because if this is the case, there isn't any NX part number with reverse camera option before 31/03/2009!
If someone is aware of what the dates appeared on this document means and if there are related in any way with VIN number's date, please enlighten me!I definitely wouldn't like to pay a whole bunch of money to get a useless (for me) item.

Many thanks in advance

Nick

Don't bother, I have it in mine, you cannot update the maps unless you pay ford,I have the March 2011 sd card in mine and some roads near me that have been open for at least 2 years are not on the maps, been onto ford about it and they are not intrested.
Just my opinion.

I bought a "MirrorNavi" for my wife's Kuga and it's a Garmin device with speed cameras, Bluetooth, and Garmin Lock also has the advantage of being mounted in the dimming rear view mirror it doesn't leave any nasty marks on the windscreen alerting the Neds that it has a sat nav fitted... £275 ofr the unit plus fitting. But easy to fit after watching the YouTube installation guide...

Hallo forum,
I've been searching all of the forum's  previous posts for quite some time now to get some kind of help but in no avail. So I decided to address my questions opening a new post here.
I recently bought the Blaupunkt NX unit to install on my Kuga.In a couple of days all the peripherals (GPS antenna, camera, adapters e.t.c.) will also be received.Prior any installation work begins though, I would like to know 2 things which concerns me the most:
Is there a "special" place for the GPS antenna to be installed or it may be placed anywhere in the car?I've been told that you can hide it almost anywhere like inside the dashboard, under the bonnet or maybe even inside the bumpers. How much true is this?Could I install it inverted between the roof upholstery and the metal roof itself (with its dome facing down and its magnet base attached to the metal roof from the inside)?Or wherever it may be installed its plastic dome must look upwards as much as possible?I've also been told that the shorter the antenna cable is the better signal the GPS would have. How true is this?
The second thing I would like to know concerns the camera's video line to the NX unit. From where exactly this line must be routed? Is there a certain routing for cables running through the back of the car all the way to the dashboard, thus to the NX unit?It crossed my mind that the best possible "passage" would be through the doorsteps but is this so?I don't know if there is a spiral hose with cables running to the back of the car...If one existed it would be easy enough to guide also the video cable through the hose.
If someone been through the same or even similar procedure in the past, his/her advice and help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance
Nick.

Hi Nick,

The GOS antenna must be given the best opportunity to 'see' the sky overhead. Without this, reception will be very poor, or even non-existant.

If your GOS antenna is one of the small (30mm x 30mm) magnetic 'patch' models, then you could try locating it at either of the two bottom corners of the front windscreen, on top of the dashboard.

It should not be too obtrusive there, and it should also get a 'clear view' through the heating elements of the windscreen itself. Alternatively, you could eve try hiding it inside the little cubby-hole slot in the centre of the dash - it may still be able to 'see through' the centre gap of the heating elements as well. But, you should try both of these locations first, before commiting yourself to a final location.

As far as 'length of cable' is concerned - you will be confined to the cable provided with the antenna. Unles you know EXACTLY what you are doing, you will not have the skills or equipment to extend, or shorten, the supplied cable. If you are going to 'coil up' any excess cable, keep ALL bend radius measurements to a minimum radius of 50mm.

Mounting the antenna 'upside down', attached to the metal roof, above the head-lining, might work, sometimes, but will most likely not work most of the time. Locating in plastic bumpers 'can' work, as can locating inside the wing-mirror housings. Neither of these sites are easily used however.

All the b*llsh!t you see on TV, or in movies, where GPS tracker bugs the size of apple seeds are located in areas shielded from 'seeing' the sky are just 'movie hype'. The signal levels that GPS receivers work with are INCREDIBLY low, and even under the best of conditions, it is nothing short of miraculous that they work at all, ever !! (I should know, I worked with GPS for years, back in the late '90s and early '00s - the feats these little antennae have to achieve to overcome the problems they encounter are truly impressive !)

HTH

Cheers,
Niall

Hi Niall,
I certainly don't have the adequate knowledge to shorten the antenna cable myself!I was refering to the cable lenght given by the supplier. My concern is whether or not a shorter cable length should give to the antenna better reception characteristics compared to an antenna with a much larger cable. For example, between 2 antennaes with considerably different cable lengths, the one with 1,8 mt and the other with 5 mt,will the one with the shortest cable behave better in terms of reception, or the cable lengths have nothing to do with it?
As for the antenna's location,I would prefer to be somewhere completely hidden, even though the place you alternatively proposed (inside the little cubby-hole slot in the centre of the dash) might work fine with me.There are antennaes suppliers out there advertising their product claiming it will work perfect and without any problems even at completely hidden places, like inside the dashboard or maybe even under the seats! How much true could this be?The link below is an example from one of such claims:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180780811083&ssPageName=ADME:B:EF:DE:1123
One way or the other your help and information are much appreciated, moreover you're an expert and this alone adds even greater validity to your opinion.
Many thanks for all the help

Nick.

Hi Folks,

I don't know if it's the right place to post such a question but anyway it seemed more logical to me to post it here instead of elsewhere.

Is there a chance for anyone to know in which way a destination could be deleted from the Ford/Blaupunkt NX Satnav 7" touchscreen display unit?Is there a way, or all previous destinations are gathering to memory and stay permanently there?
And also something else I would like to know concerning touchscreens (even this isn't a "How to" issue):
Have you ever experienced problems with your touchscreen's sensitivity during freezing cold temperatures inside and out of the car?My screen become totally unresponsive until cabin temperature is significantly increased. All other controls and unit's push buttons though, working perfect all of the time and only the screen seems to be affected by the cold.I have to point out that I have add a screen protector on the screen.I wonder if it has something to do with it... Exclamation

Thanks for any possible help

Cheers
Nick

Hi Folks,

couple of weeks ago I retrofited my Kuga replacing its original Sony single CD/MP3 DAB stereo unit with Blaupunkt NX.Everything works fine & perfect with the NX, except Voice control commants. The car has the VC/BT option.Even my phone works o.k. with the NX.Nevertheless, when the VC system is activated and all the commands are heard and seen in the NX display, it's impossible for any input command to work.At every command I input to the system I get a "canceled" answer from the system and Voice control is shutting itself down.I tried with several commants on "radio","climate", "CD", "navigation" e.t.c. but no avail!

Is there a possibility for this to happen because my NX is a brand new/right from the factory unit and it was never installed on any other car before?I didn't even need to enter its key code when I operated it for the first time in my car!I've been told that there is a great possibility for the unit to must be paired with the car's system for the VC to work.

Is this the case or there might be other technical problems elsewhere?

If someone has installed a brand new NX unit which was never been used on any other car in the past, normally must be aware of this!

Thanks for any help

Nick

Did you have voice control with the DAB unit?

If you did then it's possibly an incompatibility problem with your bluetooth module or the language setting on the NX unit.

Are you talking Greek to it?
