Well said.... I caravanned with my parents for many years touring all over the uk with a correctly matched outfit, and to be honest the long hills were always the place to overtake those with lesser matched outfits. They do, as you say, give caravanners a bad name.
Lorry drivers.... on the other hand. We all see them... inside lane and middle lane, takes about 20 mile for Mr Middle lane to pass his slightly more limited mate on the inside. They do make my blood boil, but certainly not `vanners. Rant now over!! Bruce

Kuga's ok and well-balanced for towing smallish to medium outfits, but I must say my 4.8is BMW X5 and its predeccessor on my driveway, the P38 4.6 Range Rover it replaced, are far, far better tow cars than my Kuga. No contest!! :)

Hi Condor, Got to question the logic there. Given that any caravan towed over the sort of terrain a Range Rover will transverse, will fall to pieces, then it would be silly to do so.
If we accept that tarmac and a grass field as the normal terrain on which to take a caravan, then keeping within the design criteria of each vehicle they will ALL do the same job equally as well as each other. ![]() |

Condor perhaps you you can afford to run a big 4x4 and wish to waste the planets resourses been there done that but no need too now days anyone can waste money but who wants too.My Kuga pulls my caravan really well,I had a shogun 3.2 lovely car but the Kuga does the same job just as good and a lot cheaper to run.

We all have the right to our own opinions. Yes I can afford to run a big 4x4 and quite honestly, I'm wasting far less of the planets resources than the likes of benefits scroungers and holidaymakers jetting off on their "Easter Breaks" in aircraft wasting more resources in one trip than I could in a lifetime of using my BMW. I also pay tax in the 50% bracket so the govt and the scroungers do pretty well off my income, thank you. My beautiful BMW X5 is not a "waste of money", it is a magnificently engineered car, looks stunning with performance to match and is the most comfortable and well-equipped car I have had the pleasure to own. The Range Rover did not match the build quality of the BMW, nor the fuel economy - the big BMW V8 delivers 24-30mpg for me, which is not actually that far from the Kuga's rather disappointing 38ish-mpg. My Kuga is a company car, the BMW is my personal car. The BMW cost £72K new, the Kuga £30K, so I would think it is obvious that neither the build quality of the Kuga nor its performance would come close, which is indeed the case. The Kuga is pleasant and adequate for its job but does not match the BMW in any way and feels somewhat downmarket alongside the lovely interior finish of the BMW.
As to the previous poster - I didn't claim to be towing a caravan over 4x4 terrain at any point in my post. I wouldn't be stupid enough to tow a caravan anywhere, actually - I'm with Gutbucket on that one - I despise the things and the selfish owners who hold up miles and miles of traffic on A and B roads countrywide without a care in the world. I have a motorhome which travels comfortably at the speed limits and holds up no-one.
The trailers I tow and have towed in the past may be towable adequately by a Kuga but the towing experience is much. much nicer in the larger cars, which are extremely stable tow cars and are unlikely to be affected as much by untoward movement or sway or unpredictable road users- it is great to have the additional engine power to be able to respond to emergency situations over a much smaller car towing to its max capacity or thereabouts.
In any event, its my opinion, I'm entitled to it amazingly enough and I was just responding to the headline of this thread, namely "best tow car yet", which in my opinion, the Kuga certainly is NOT - capable though it may be, it certainly is not the "best".
