Fantastic , also I seem to remember if you scuff the wheel you have to report it and get it in the garage within 2-3 days or they won't do anything about it. So I probably said "s*d that then!". |

Given that we all know that our 18" alloy's WILL corode then an idea might be to insist that Ford powder coat the NEW wheels before we take delivery. Just a suggestion, I wish I had been aware of the problem when I bought mine.

Hi
This may hve been covered already but just in case I thought I would part with my knowledge on this subject, My heels have corroded and when I spoke an expert in allow wheels expecting him to be able to fix this for me he informed me that ALL alloys that have the polished finish will show signs of corrosion because they are not designed to get wet, yes thats right Ford and other car manufactures are putting polished wheels on cars in this country when they are not design to suit our weather conditions, the expert I spoke to said the only solution was to re-coat the whole rim at £50 per rim..
sorry if i am repeating what everyone already knows..

citypowdercoat in Birmingham £20/per wheel, your informer is wrong the polished faces are laquered hence weatherproof but........the outer face is most likely going to chip the laquer from flying road debris thus the weather/water will corrode/oxidise the polished/machined faces. UK roads suck..........considering the Governments income from motorists !!Edited by moondust - 21 Mar 2012 at 12:47pm |

It's not just a chip that can cause it to flake.
The painted bits have etch primer that helps it bond to the alloy. The laquer is just sprayed onto the bare metal, so it doesn't bond with the metal and overtime just start flaking off. |
