Bought a maxiscan fault code reader and it worked a treat.
The fault code was still showing DPF problem. I have turned off the MIL and filled up with BP ultimate diesel and give it a right good thrashing, done 270miles since sat when I did the above and so far MIL is still off. Not too confident it will stay that way so have left it booked into garage on fri will report back next few days.. PS-does anyone no exactly were the DPF is situated and were the sensors are ???

Update
Now about 550 miles since error code reset still no MIL and mpg seems to have gone back to normal. Plugged maxiscan in again yesterday and no error codes or pending error codes so hopefully were sorted.

Hi mate -
There are lots of DPF cleaner additives available to buy.
I bought a bottle of Forte DPF cleaner off EBay.
No idea if it worked as Ive never had any DPF issues, but thought I would give it a go, it was only £15 and prevention is better than the cure! Judging by the amount of black soot/carbon on my freshly cleaned exhaust pipe tips, it certainly dumped something out of the back end!
Anyway, I believe it works by lowering the temeprature at which the soot burns off (down to 300 deg from 450 or so).
Maybe worth running a bottle through for peace of mind?
Just a thought,
Andy

Whilst looking for something else on the net I stumbled upon this from the Beebs Watchdog programme last Oct which covers complaints regarding using diesel engined cars with DPFs, it's far too long to cut & paste so here's the link instead: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/watchdog/2011/10/diesel_particulate_filters.html

My engine light has come on and I know that it's impossible to tell what the issues is, but I was wondering of any one knew of a list of things that it might cover.
I should add that the car has currently no running issues at all, just the light for now. Thanks JW Edited by J14WNY - 15 Feb 2012 at 6:43pm |

Hi, I think you will find all the advice you need in this thread. Personally I have had the engine management light come on again this week. I say again, as you will read a few posts earlier that it happened at the end of the year. I wonder if it's also influenced by the cold weather, in that the exhaust temperatures do not get high enough to complete a regeneration? Maybe I will try one of the DPF cocktails if it happens again. Anyway it's time for another blast and a cup of coffee with a croissant come Saturday morning, I think! All the best.

Most likely is DPF as stated earlier in thread get a £20 code reader then check the code and erase em therefore turning MIL off.
Re- cocktails, I didnt find that it worked however I am convinced that a tank full of BP ultimate every few tank fulls is beneficial defo get more mpg.

Hi,
I have been experiencing DPF problems with my 2009 Zetec. I did think it was due to changing my driving pattern to short journeys and so put a diesel additive in the tank and went for a long drive. Couldn't regenerate and the engine malfunction light stayed on. Never went into limp mode though. I eventually took it to a Ford dealer who completed a software upgrade and the problems has gone away. My question is though, has anyone had the DPF taken out/modified etc? I notice a number of firms offering this service for about £350 and if it works would make DPF problems a thing of the past. They claim that even without the DPF the emissions will never get to the levels that would fail an MOT test. Any thoughts on this?
